About the role
About the Team
Droyd builds autonomous robotic systems that automate repetitive manual work in real environments. We design and manufacture our hardware in-house, which means iteration, fabrication, and execution all happen under one roof.
Our hardware team moves quickly, which means the machine shop is a core part of how we prototype, iterate, and build. Machining at Droyd supports both R&D and production — the work ranges from one-off parts and fixtures to repeatable components that keep engineering moving.
About the Role
As a Machinist at Droyd, you will make high-quality parts that directly support robot development and hardware production.
You will work closely with engineers and the shop team to turn designs into physical components quickly and reliably. This is a hands-on role for someone who takes pride in craftsmanship, works well in a fast-paced environment, and enjoys being close to the build cycle.
This role is based on-site in San Francisco, CA.
In This Role, You'll
Machining & Fabrication
Machine parts and fixtures to support prototype and production hardware
Work from CAD models, drawings, and engineering input to produce accurate components
Set up CAM tool paths for 3-axis to 5-axis CNC machines
Support fast-turn iteration on mechanical designs
Quality & Shop Operations
Help improve shop throughput, part quality, and repeatability
Maintain strong standards for safety, cleanliness, and machine care
Keep tooling and machines in reliable working condition
Collaboration & Prioritization
Coordinate with engineers and assembly teams to prioritize urgent work
Communicate lead times, blockers, and part status clearly
Adapt quickly as design priorities change
Work Environment & Schedule
On-site in San Francisco, CA
Full-time
Compensation: $90K–$130K base salary, plus equity
This role involves standing for extended periods, operating machine tools, and close attention to detail.
We're Looking For Candidates Who
Have hands-on machining experience with strong CNC background
Have experience setting up CAM tool paths for 3-axis to 5-axis machines
Can produce quality parts with speed and consistency
Are comfortable working closely with engineering teams in a rapid prototyping environment
Have strong attention to detail and pride in shop work
Can adapt quickly as priorities change
Nice to have:
Experience in prototype-heavy environments such as robotics, aerospace, motorsports, or hardware startups
Experience supporting both R&D and light production work
Familiarity with CNC workflows and fixture-making
About Droyd
Droyd builds autonomous robotic systems that operate in real production environments. We design the hardware, develop the control stack, and generate the data that enables generalist robotics.
If we do this right, robots stop being demos and start being infrastructure.
