In this role you will be responsible for leading a team in the design and development of safety-critical mechanisms including steering wheels and airbags for passenger and commercial vehicles. You will need to deliver engineering excellence, ensure product performance, and drive cross-functional collaboration to meet customer and organizational requirements.
Should you be interested in overseeing these tasks and aiming for enhanced performance standards, your role will involve:
Lead design and development of mechanisms including steering wheels and airbags
Prepare and release 3D CAD models and 2D drawings with GD&T and tolerance stack-up
Conduct design reviews, DFMEA, DFM & A, and ensure robust product design
Develop and manage BOM, DVP, and engineering deliverables
Ensure product validation meets functional, durability, and reliability requirements
Plan and track engineering schedules and ensure timeline adherence
Drive tool feasibility commitments (TFC) for sheet metal and plastic components
Lead prototype builds, vehicle trials, and validation activities
Perform failure analysis using structured methodologies (8D/G8D)
Collaborate with cross-functional teams (Project Management, Quality, Purchase, Production, Suppliers)
Represent the team in global engineering forums and customer interactions
Manage customer and supplier discussions related to design, trials, and improvements
If you have/are:
Strong experience in design and development of automotive safety-critical products
Hands-on expertise in sheet metal and plastic component design
Proficiency in CATIA V5 and PLM tools (ENOVIA)
Good understanding of GD&T, tolerance stack-up, DFMEA, and DFM & A
Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
Experience in managing high-profile or complex engineering projects
Ability to lead and develop teams and drive performance
Graduate/Postgraduate in Mechanical or Automobile Engineering
12–15 years of experience (or Diploma with 15–18 years) in automotive industry (Tier 1 preferred)
Fluency in English (Kannada and Hindi preferred; Japanese/Korean is an advantage)
