Mechanical / Diesel Fitter – Take Your Trade Beyond the Workshop
Want to take your trade out of the workshop and into the field?
Join KRSP’s Power Generation Upgrade Programme and work across the Kimberley on remote power stations, tackling diverse mechanical work, operating in locations few get to experience, and playing a key role in delivering reliable power to communities that depend on it.
About the role
KRSP is seeking a qualified, skilled, and motivated Mechanical Fitter / Diesel Fitter to join our Power Generation Upgrade Programme.
Working alongside an Electrician, you will be responsible for the removal, refurbishment, installation, alignment, and commissioning support of diesel generation assets at isolated remote community power stations throughout the Kimberley.
This role is suited to someone with strong mechanical aptitude, experience working on diesel engines or generator systems, and the ability to work safely and effectively in remote locations as part of a small team.
If you have had exposure to any of the following, we want to hear from you:
- Diesel engines, generators, or power generation systems
- Mechanical fitting, fabrication, welding, and installation of ancillary equipment
- Generator change-outs or mechanical installation works

- Working remotely as part of a small crew with limited supervision
This is a fantastic opportunity to join a committed team and make a real difference in the daily lives of the communities KRSP serves.
Key responsibilities of the role
- Remove existing diesel generators from remote power stations and assist with the installation of replacement units.
- Carry out mechanical fitting, alignment, modification, and installation works associated with generator replacement projects
- Modify new generator units and ancillary equipment where required to suit site-specific installation requirements
- Undertake general welding, fabrication, pipework, mechanical fitting, and installation of associated power station equipment
- Work closely with Electricians to complete generator change-outs safely, efficiently, and to a high standard
- Assist with commissioning activities, including completion of commissioning sheets, inspection records, and client data entry
- Operate safely in isolated remote locations, including managing tools, materials, equipment, and site housekeeping
- Work with minimal supervision as part of a small team for extended periods in remote communities
Location and roster
This role operates on a drive-in/drive-out (DIDO) basis from Broome to remote Kimberley communities.
- Kimberley residents are strongly encouraged to apply
- Candidates willing to relocate to the region are supported
- Fly-in/fly-out (FIFO) options are available for applicants outside the Kimberley
Typical roster: 18 days on / 10 days off.
Given the nature and location of KRSP’s work, candidates must be flexible with roster cycles, travel requirements, and the demands of working in isolated remote communities.
