Family Health Care is seeking an on-call Medical Office Assistant / HIS Clerk at our clinic in Big Rapids.
Description: The Medical Office Assistant is a front desk employee responsible for checking in patients, scheduling appointments, answering phones, etc. The Health Information Services (HIS) Clerk is an entry-level position in the medical records department. This position handles confidential patient records, ensuring they are maintained in an organized manner and under strict security protocols.
Primary Responsibilities:
-Follow HIPAA to ensure confidentiality and access to patient health information.
-Answer incoming phone calls and respond to medical records requests from patients.
-Accurately performs all required procedures for processing release of information requests.
-Performs other duties deemed necessary and assigned by the supervisor.
Qualifications:
-Excellent communication and organizational skills with the ability to pay attention to detail.
-Experience in medical records management is preferred but not required.
-Working knowledge of patient records systems is preferred.
-Working knowledge of health care terminology is preferred
-Must have typing and computer skills.
-Good interpersonal communication skills to work with patients, providers, and coworkers.
Minimum Requirements:
-High School Graduate or GED equivalent
-Previous medical records experience preferred but not required.
-Basic office skills, including organization and communication.
