<p><strong>SUMMARY</strong></p>
<p>An <strong>Ophthalmic Photographer</strong> is a valuable asset to an Ophthalmologist as they assist in providing excellent patient care to the patients during their visit. This employee is able to handle a wide range of duties while using equipment to perform the initial testing needed to prepare a patient for an exam with an Ophthalmologist. <span data-contrast="auto">Ophthalmic Photographers use ophthalmic techniques to perform examination and work up of patients in a clinic setting and also directly provides Physician(s) with a physical, tangible product; a photograph of the highest quality possible which best documents and illustrates the patient’s pathology/anomaly.</span><strong><span data-contrast="auto"> </span></strong> <br><span data-ccp-props="{}"> </span></p>
<p><strong><span data-contrast="auto">ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES </span></strong><span data-ccp-props="{}"> </span></p>
<ul>
<li><span data-contrast="auto">Color stereo Retinal Fundus photography and Serial Stereo Retinal Intravenous Fluorescein Angiography skills, including IV start up and dye administration.</span><strong><span data-contrast="auto"> </span></strong><span data-ccp-props="{}"> </span></li>
<li><span data-contrast="auto">External ocular photography and performs OCT on patients with speed and accuracy; may assist Physician(s) with treatments when needed.</span><strong><span data-contrast="auto"> </span></strong><span data-ccp-props="{}"> </span></li>
<li><span data-contrast="auto">Skilled in ophthalmic terminology, ability to type words accurately with speed and knowledge of Electronic Medical Records (EMR) system; may be required to Scribe for Physicians if needed. </span><strong><span data-contrast="auto"> </span></strong><span data-ccp-props="{}"> </span></li>
<li><span data-contrast="auto">Reviews patient’s past and current medical and ophthalmic history, including information regarding medications, allergies and family history of eye problems.</span><strong><span data-contrast="auto"> </span></strong><span data-ccp-props="{}"> </span></li>
<li><span data-contrast="auto">Identifies any potential patient concerns and brings these issues to the attention of the Office Coordinator or Physician as appropriate.</span><strong><span data-contrast="auto"> </span></strong><span data-ccp-props="{}"> </span></li>
<li><span data-contrast="auto">Ability to measure and record both distance and near visual acuity and pinhole acuity; performs preliminary refraction using objective equipment.</span><strong><span data-contrast="auto"> </span></strong><span data-ccp-props="{}"> </span></li>
<li><span data-contrast="auto">Ability to measure intraocular pressures by applanation tonometry, pneumatonometry and/or use of tonopen and checks pupillary response to light and pupillary defects.</span><strong><span data-contrast="auto"> </span></strong><span data-ccp-props="{}"> </span></li>
<li><span data-contrast="auto">Performs basic visual field testing and patient education as directed by Physician.</span><strong><span data-contrast="auto"> </span></strong><span data-ccp-props="{}"> </span></li>
<li><span data-contrast="auto">Ability to prepare patients for treatments and minor procedures; measures and records vital signs (blood pressure, pulse, and respiration rate) as required.</span><strong><span data-contrast="auto"> </span></strong><span data-ccp-props="{}"> </span></li>
<li><span data-contrast="auto">Ability to instill eye drops as directed by the Physician and assist in the application of dressings, shields and eye patches. </span><strong><span data-contrast="auto"> </span></strong><span data-ccp-props="{}"> </span></li>
<li><span data-contrast="auto">Keeps examination, treatment, laser and any other assigned rooms cleaned and stocked with supplies, medication logs and inventories up to date.</span><strong><span data-contrast="auto"> </span></strong><span data-ccp-props="{}"> </span></li>
<li><span data-contrast="auto">Become certified for photography services required for study participation.</span><strong><span data-contrast="auto"> </span></strong><span data-ccp-props="{}"> </span></li>
<li><span data-contrast="auto">Responsible for the proper handling of all equipment related to job and assists with equipment maintenance and repairs when necessary.</span><strong><span data-contrast="auto"> </span></strong><span data-ccp-props="{}"> </span></li>
<li><span data-contrast="auto">Highly encouraged to obtain certification as Certified Retinal Angiographer (CRA).</span><strong><span data-contrast="auto"> </span></strong><span data-ccp-props="{}"> </span></li>
<li><span data-contrast="auto">Requires proficient keyboarding skills, use of Electronic Medical Record (EMR) and image management system.</span><strong><span data-contrast="auto"> </span></strong><span data-ccp-props="{}"> </span></li>
<li><span data-contrast="auto">Utilize electronic mail and other instant messaging systems.</span><strong><span data-contrast="auto"> </span></strong><span data-ccp-props="{}"> </span></li>

<p><strong>PHYSICAL</strong><strong> REQUIREMENTS</strong></p>

<li>This role requires a variety of physical activities to effectively perform essential job functions. The position involves frequent walking (75%), sitting (50%), and standing (50%), with regular bending, stooping, and reaching (25–50%). Employees must be able to lift, carry, push, and pull items up to 25 lbs. Strong fine motor skills and full use of hands are essential, as the role demands constant grasping, writing/typing, and use of technology. Visual and auditory acuity—including color, depth, peripheral vision, and the ability to adjust focus—is required 100% of the time. Occasional driving or climbing may also be necessary. </li>
