<p><strong>Position Summary</strong></p>
<p>Opportunity Charter School is actively seeking a dynamic and well-versed teacher who can effectively cater to the diverse needs of our exceptional student body. The ideal candidate will excel in cultivating strong, trusting relationships with students, fostering a welcoming and secure learning environment that promotes academic risk-taking. OCS teachers are data-driven and possess the skill to identify and address the individual needs of their students. We are searching for a dedicated individual who not only understands but also passionately advocates for our school's vision in every interaction with stakeholders.</p>

<p><strong>Responsibilities:</strong></p>
<ul>
<li>Demonstrate enthusiasm for the subject matter and a genuine passion for fostering a love of learning in students.</li>
<li>Engage in reflective practices, continually evaluating and refining teaching methods to enhance effectiveness.</li>
<li>Collaborate with a multidisciplinary team to create, implement, and regularly review individualized education plans for students with special needs.</li>
<li>Design and implement instructional plans aligned with curriculum standards, ensuring relevance and engagement for students.</li>
<li>Adapt teaching methods and materials to meet the diverse learning styles and abilities of students with special needs.</li>
<li>Lead an advisory group and oversee the implementation of our social-emotional curriculum within that class.</li>
<li>Establish and maintain a positive and inclusive learning environment, implementing effective behavior management strategies as needed.</li>
<li>Handle conflicts or challenges within the classroom, promoting a respectful and supportive learning community using restorative practices.</li>
<li>Conduct assessments to evaluate students' academic and developmental levels, and regularly monitor and document progress, and adjust teaching strategies accordingly.</li>
<li>Work closely with teachers, administrators, and other staff members to ensure the utilization of best practices with students.</li>
<li>Stay informed about current trends, research, and best practices in education through ongoing professional development.</li>
<li>Demonstrate teamwork, actively modeling cooperation and helpfulness for students.</li>
<li>Incorporate relevant technology to enhance teaching and learning experiences, promoting digital literacy skills.</li>
<li>Effectively communicate with students, parents, and colleagues, keeping them informed about progress, expectations, and any concerns.</li>
<li>Promote a culturally responsive and inclusive learning environment that respects and values diversity.</li>

<p>Job Type: Full-time</p>
<p>Starting Salary: $64,711.00 - $91,622.00 per year</p>
<p><strong>Requirements:</strong></p>
<ul>
<li>Bachelor’s degree is required. Master’s degree preferred</li>
<li>NYS Teacher Certification (Preferred)
<ul>
<li>If not certified, documented evidence of progress/pathway toward obtaining NYS Teacher Certification is required</li>
</ul>
</li>
<li>Dual certification in Special Education and a subject area (Preferred)</li>
</ul>
<p>Schedule:</p>
<ul>
<li>8 hour shift</li>
<li>Monday to Friday</li>
</ul>
<p>Experience:</p>
<ul>
<li>Special education: 1 year (Preferred)</li>
</ul>
<p>License/Certification:</p>
<ul>
<li>NY State Teacher Certification (Preferred)</li>
</ul>
