About the role
In 2020, G Mining Ventures (GMIN) was created to acquire direct ownership of projects and capitalize on the value uplift that successful mine development offers.
In July 2024, GMIN acquired the Oko West project. The Oko West Project is a new gold discovery in northwest Guyana. It is located south of the historical “Oko” gold district, some 95 km west of Georgetown.
To ensure the achievement of this large-scale project, G Mining Ventures is looking for an experienced and motivated individual to fill the position of:
Drill Operator:
The Drill Operator is responsible for operating various types of drill rigs to create blast holes in accordance with production plans and safety standards. This role plays a key part in the drill and blast cycle and contributes directly to the efficient and safe extraction of mineral resources.
Key Areas of Responsibility & Duties
- Operate drill rigs safely and efficiently in accordance with mine plans, standard operating procedures (SOPs), and safety regulations.
- Conduct pre-operational inspections and ensure equipment is in good working condition.
- Drill blast holes to specified depths, diameters, angles, and spacing using appropriate drilling methods.
- Accurately mark holes and report any deviations or anomalies in ground conditions to supervisors or engineers.
- Maintain logs of drilling performance, hole conditions, equipment hours, and delays.
- Perform minor maintenance and troubleshooting on drilling equipment.
- Communicate effectively with blast crew, surveyors, and dispatch to coordinate drilling activities.
- Ensure drilling patterns are followed precisely and collaborate with supervisors to adjust if necessary.
- Identify and report safety hazards and participate in safety meetings, toolbox talks, and field-level risk assessments.
- Assist in training new drill operators or helpers as directed.
Qualifications/Skills and Experience:
- High school graduate with technical diploma in mining.
- Minimum of 2–4 years of experience operating blast hole drill rigs in a mining or quarry environment.
- Experience with various types of drills (rotary, down-the-hole (DTH), or top hammer drill rigs).
- Understanding of drilling and blasting procedures and safety standards.
- Ability to read drill plans, maps, and production layouts.
- Physically fit and able to work in harsh environmental conditions.
- Basic mechanical aptitude and troubleshooting skills.
Working Conditions:
- Position based at the OKO Project site.
- Work Schedule – 14 days on 7 days Off
- Transport, accommodations, and meals provided on site.
