ONE-TO-ONE WORKER

(Casual/Relief)

 

GENERAL DESCRIPTION

 

The One-to-One Worker is a casual/relief program position.  The One-to-One Worker is responsible for the direct supervision of high risk and special needs children. The One-to-One Worker ensures the needs of the child are met according to Kitapinoonjiiminaanik Family Services philosophy, First Nation standards, and Provincial regulations and standards.

 

RESPONSIBILTY

 

The One-to-One Worker reports primarily to the Alternative Care Resource Manager in all aspects of job functions and will exercise the following duties under the supervision of the Alternative Care Resource Manager:

 

 

DUTIES

 

1.  Program Delivery

 

1.1   Provides relevant, competent services to all member First Nation children, in care of the agency, who require

       one-to-one supervision;

 

1.2  Ensures services are delivered with excellence and conform to provincial legislation, regulations, and                                     standards, and the Agency philosophy, policies, procedures, guidelines and protocols;

 

1.3  Ensures every child receives the highest quality of services through decision-making that is done in the best interests         and well-being of every child;

 

1.4   Acts as a liaison between the front-line workers and the child;

 

1.5   Advocates on behalf of the child, builds a trusting relationship with the child, provides advice and support to the                  child, and ensures the needs of the child are met;

 

1.6   Provides one-to-one supervision in schools, Agency Operated Homes, hotels, or other locations as directed by the              Alternative Care Worker;

 

1.7   Ensures the safety and well-being of the child at all times;

 

1.8    Manages disruptive behaviors in accordance with agency policies and procedures, and within the parameters of                 the  CYFSA and provincial standards;

 

1.9    Provides supervision with structured activities for the child;

 

1.10   Interacts with the child and encourages positive communication;

 

1.11    Models appropriate behaviors and language;

 

1.12   Administers standard First Aid and prescribed medication, as required;

 

1.13   Provides light housekeeping, menu planning, and meal preparation, as required;

 

1.14   Provides transportation for the child as directed by the Alternative Care Worker or Child Care Worker;

 

1.15   Prepares case notes and completes log book entries at the conclusion of each shift detailing child’s behaviors,                     concerns, and events during the shift;

 

1.16   Reports immediately to the Alternative Care Worker and/or Child Care Worker all emergencies, serious occurrences,           or any incident or suspicion of child abuse and/or neglect;

 


2.    Program Support

 

2.1    Serves as a resource to the Alternative Care Worker and the Child Care Worker;

 

2.2   Participates willingly and constructively in the supervision process with the Alternative Care Resource Manager;

 

2.3   Participates actively in team meetings by sharing ideas and concerns, providing input and proposing change that                 would improve services;

 

2.4   Reviews policies and procedures to identify change that would improve the quality of services; and

 

2.5   Participates in special projects as assigned by the Alternative Care Resource Manager.

 

 

3.    Professional Development

 

3.1    Participates in in-service training and seminars, workshops, and courses as available.

 

 

4.   Community Relations

 

4.1    Promotes the Agency philosophy, goals and objectives;

 

4.2   Reviews and makes recommendations to the Alternative Care Resource Manager on program services and                           procedures to improve service effectiveness in relation to community needs; and

 

4.3   Acts in a professionally appropriate manner during work hours and after work hours and is a positive role model for             clients and First Nation communities.

 

 

5.   Other Duties

 

5.1    Performs other related duties as assigned by the Alternative Care Resource Manager.

 

5.2    Performs On-Call Retainer duties as part of a rotating schedule.

 

5.3    Complete all necessary training to meet Ministry standards; Immunization records, medicals, fire extinguisher                      training, CPI training, policy and procedures review, First Aid/CPR and safe food handing.


 QUALIFICATIONS

 

1.    High School Diploma with one year direct related experience. However, a combination of skills, education and                     experience may be considered;

 

2.   Basic knowledge of the Child, Youth and Family Services Act and Regulations;

 

3.   Sound knowledge of Customary Care and the philosophy of service development and delivery; the communities and          family structure, as well as local First Nation customs and traditions;

 

4.   Working knowledge of the administrative structure and operations of Kitapinoonjiiminaanik Family Services including          the service delivery model, policies, procedures and guidelines;

 

5.   Strong commitment to help Anishinaabe children and their families by providing services in ways that respect                       Anishinaabe cultural and spiritual practices;

 

6.    Commitment to provide services in the Anishinaabe context of extended family and community involvement;

 

7.    Committed to maintain the highest level of confidentiality at all times;

 

8.    Ability to establish and maintain purposeful relationships with children, staff, and management;

 

9.    Ability to take direction and work within the philosophy, policies, procedures, and guidelines;

 

10.   Experience working with high risk and special needs children with a demonstrated ability to interact with children,              and establish and maintain a trusting relationship;

 

11.    Knowledge of child development and behavior management;

 

12.    Ability to provide structured activities, light housekeeping duties, and meal preparation;

 

13.    Demonstrated ability to prepare detailed case notes with respect to date data and situations;

 

14.    Excellent interpersonal skills and enjoy working with children;

 

15.    Good oral and written communication skills;

 

16.    Excellent planning, problem-solving, and decision-making skills;

 

17.    Ability to work shift work and report to work on short notice in relation to service requirements;

 

18.   Current First Aid and C.P.R. certificates, and crisis intervention;

 

19.   Must possess a valid Ontario G Driver’s License and be willing to travel;

 

20.   Must provide a clear Vulnerable Sector Check and Driver’s Abstract; and

 

21.   Ability to speak Ojibway is preferred and a definite asset.
