OUTSIDE PLANT ENGINEER

OVERVIEW: The Outside Plant Department exists to ensure that fiber optic and copper cabling are constructed and maintained to industry standards. Under the supervision of the Telecommunications Manager, the Outside Plant Engineer directs all operations of the Outside Plant Department.

KEY TASKS INCLUDE:

• Provides guidance to staff responsible for telecommunications planning.
• Reviews and approves the outside plant network designs.
• Coordinates projects with relevant organizations or stakeholders.
• Provides technical support to the sales teams where necessary.
• Schedules and assigns employees in the Outside Plant Department and follows up on work results.
• Prepares the Outside Plant Department budget; schedules expenditures; analyzes variances and initiates corrective measures.
• Initiates, coordinates and enforces standards and procedures.
• Prepares monthly reports; collects, analyzes and summarizes information and trends.
• Provides support to the wider Telecoms Engineering

Suitable candidates must possess the following:

• A Bachelors' degree or equivalent in civil engineering or a related field from a reputable tertiary institution;
• Strong demonstrated engineering, analytical and problem-solving skills;
• Knowledge & understanding of various telecommunication engineering procedures and standards;
• Excellent oral and written communication skills; interpersonal and report writing skills;
• Strong leadership qualities with experience in supervising, training and utilizing various performance management mechanisms to achieve and maintain optimal performance;
• A high degree of flexibility; the ability to work under pressure and to deadlines; the ability to work additional hours and/or perform additional duties in the event of planned/unplanned outages, storms and emergencies.
