Pharmacy Technician

Job Summary:     The Pharmacy Technician works under the direct supervision of the Pharmacist and is responsible for assisting the Pharmacist with the daily operations, training/supervision of new Pharmacy Technicians and Assistants. The Pharmacy Technician is expected to ensure the health and safety of their patients. He/She must be active in a professional organization and participate in continuing education and professional development programs.

Main Duties and Responsibilities:

• Promotes Pharmaceutical Care guided by the Pharmacist
• Interprets prescription and prepares them to be checked by a Pharmacist
• Provides drug information to clients and other health care professionals when required and approved by the Pharmacist
• Screen prescriptions for and brings to the attention of the Pharmacist errors when noticed of:
  • Any other pharmacy related problems
• Assists with the compounding and dispensing of medications in the Pharmacy
• Answers drug information questions and prepares responses according to the departments’ established procedures
• Under the supervision of the pharmacist, counsels clients on:
  • The name and description of the medication
  • The route, dosage form, route of administration and duration of therapy
  • Special directions and precautions for preparation, administration and use by patient
  • Proper storage of medications and devices
  • Prescription refill information
• Manage drug inventory and upkeep of stock
• Generates and maintains daily reports for narcotics, prescription and over the counter medications, processed and picked up medications, and dispensing logs
• Accountable for the daily activities of his/her assigned area

Knowledge, Skills & Qualifications

• Certification as a Pharmacy Technician by a reputable and approved organization
• Current Pharmacy Technician License under the Pharmacy Act of The Bahamas

Licensing and Compliance

• The employee agrees to maintain and an active and valid pharmacist license with the Bahamas Pharmacy Council throughout the duration of their employment. Failure to do so will result in immediate suspension or termination of this agreement
• The employee is responsible for ensuring the timely renewal of their license and must provide evidence of such renewal to the Employer before expiration
• The Employee agrees to fulfill all continuing education requirements mandated by the Bahamas Pharmacy Council to maintain licensure
• The Employee must immediately notify the Employer of any changes to their licensing status, including suspensions, revocations or other restrictions
