Senior Platform Engineer, Mid-Frequency Trading Team

The people who thrive here share our belief that it’s not just what we do that matters–it's how we do it. <strong>DRW</strong> is a place of high expectations, integrity, innovation and a willingness to challenge consensus.</p> <p class="p1">We are seeking a&nbsp;<strong>Senior Platform Engineer</strong>&nbsp;to build and operate the technical platforms that empower DRW’s engineers, researchers, and trading businesses to rapidly scale, collaborate, and innovate while minimizing risk. This role focuses on massively scaled infrastructure and systems that power workflows across research, simulation, and live trading, with an emphasis on robust design, high-quality code, and operational excellence.</p> <p class="p1"><strong>Key Responsibilities:</strong></p> <ul class="ul1"> <li class="li1">Design, build, and maintain scalable, distributed infrastructure platforms across on-premises and public cloud environments that enable engineers and data scientists to deploy and operate workloads efficiently.</li> <li class="li1">Build and evolve platform frameworks and self-service tooling (libraries, templates, golden paths) that standardize provisioning, deployment, runtime operations, and developer workflows.</li> <li class="li1">Define and promote platform engineering best practices, architectural patterns, reliability standards, and technology guardrails through documentation, training sessions, and hands-on support.</li> <li class="li1">Establish and mature reliability practices: SLOs/SLIs, error budgets, capacity planning, performance baselining, resilience testing, and change management.</li> <li class="li1">Own observability foundations (metrics, logs, traces), alerting strategies, and automated diagnostics to reduce MTTR and improve system transparency.</li> <li class="li1">Participate in on-call rotations and lead incident response efforts, conducting thorough post-mortems and implementing preventive measures to improve system resilience.</li> <li class="li1">Evaluate and integrate new technologies (including GenAI and open-source tools) into the platform ecosystem, conducting proof-of-concepts and making data-driven recommendations for adoption.</li> <li class="li1">Lead cross-functional platform initiatives from conception to delivery, coordinating with multiple engineering teams, product managers, and collaborators to define requirements, establish timelines, and ensure successful adoption.</li> <li class="li1">Partner with security and risk stakeholders to implement secure-by-default controls (identity/access, secrets management, auditability) aligned with DRW’s trading and operational requirements.</li> <li class="li1">Mentor engineers through design reviews, code reviews, and technical guidance; raise engineering quality and shared ownership across teams.</li> </ul> <p class="p1"><strong>Qualifications:</strong></p> <ul class="ul1"> <li class="li1">7+ years of professional software engineering experience, including platform engineering, infrastructure engineering, or SRE responsibilities.</li> <li class="li1">Strong experience building and operating distributed systems in Linux environments; comfortable troubleshooting performance, networking, and reliability issues.</li> <li class="li1">Experience with cloud platforms and hybrid/on-prem architectures; ability to design for scale, resilience, and cost efficiency.</li> <li class="li1">Proven track record owning production services: on-call, incident response, post-mortems, and durable reliability improvements.</li> <li class="li1">Experience implementing CI/CD, automated testing, and release engineering practices for platform and infrastructure code.</li> <li class="li1">Strong system design skills and the ability to lead technical decisions across teams.</li> <li class="li1">Excellent communication and cross-functional leadership skills in fast-paced, high-availability environments.</li> </ul> <p>The annual base salary range for this position is $175,000 to $250,000 depending on the candidate’s experience, qualifications, and relevant skill set. The position is also eligible for an annual discretionary bonus.
