INTRODUCTION:

ABC is looking for a Power BI Developer to join our Data Intelligence team within Revenue Operations. This role reports to the Director of Data Intelligence and focuses on building foundational data models and scalable Power BI solutions from the ground up.

This is not a maintenance role. You will be working in an environment where data models are not yet fully established, and you will play a key role in building them. You are expected to contribute to data modeling, transformation, and report development while aligning with defined standards and architecture.

You will collaborate closely with Analytics Business Partners and stakeholders, translating business needs into reliable and scalable Power BI assets.

WHAT YOU’LL DO:

• Build and maintain Power BI reports and dashboards for GTM teams

• Work with Analytics partners and business stakeholders to confirm requirements and translate them into clear reporting specifications.

• Develop data models from scratch using best practices (star schema, relationships, correct granularity)

• Write and maintain DAX measures for business logic and calculations

• Develop data transformations using Power Query (M)

• Build and manage Power BI dataflows for reusable data preparation

• Ensure data accuracy and consistency across reports and datasets

• Support dataset refreshes, troubleshoot failures, and monitor performance

• Work with multiple data sources (e.g., Salesforce, data warehouses, APIs)

• Collaborate with senior team members on data model design and architectural decisions

• Apply and follow best practices in naming conventions, model structure, and workspace organization

• Optimize report and model performance (query reduction, efficient visuals, model size management)

• Build user-friendly dashboards with clear structure and strong data visualization principles

• Identify and fix data quality or reporting issues

• Contribute to documentation and standardization of BI processes

WHAT YOU’LL NEED

• 4+ years of hands-on experience in Power BI development or similar BI/analytics roles

• Proven experience building data models from scratch (not just consuming existing datasets), including:

  • Defining fact and dimension tables

  • Setting correct granularity

  • Designing and managing relationships

  • Applying star schema principles in practice

• Strong hands-on experience with:

  • DAX (CALCULATE, filter context, row vs filter context, time intelligence)

  • Debugging and optimizing existing measures

  • Power Query (M) for data transformation

  • Power BI Service (datasets, refreshes, basic workspace management)

• Experience building and maintaining Power BI dataflows

• Solid understanding of performance optimization, including:

  • Reducing model size

  • Avoiding inefficient DAX patterns

  • Managing relationships and cardinality

• Proficiency in SQL for data extraction, validation, and troubleshooting

• Experience working with modern data warehouses (e.g., Snowflake, BigQuery, Redshift, Databricks)

• Ability to work with incomplete or messy data and structure it into usable models

• Strong attention to data accuracy and consistency

• Strong communication skills and comfort working with non-technical stakeholders

• Ability to translate business requirements into structured data models and reports

 

BEST PRACTICES EXPECTATIONS

• Follow strict naming conventions across datasets, measures, and fields

• Build clean, scalable data models (avoid unnecessary calculated columns, prioritize measures)

• Separate transformation logic (Power Query/dataflows) from semantic modeling (datasets)

• Minimize model size and optimize relationships

• Use DAX efficiently (avoid unnecessary iterators, manage filter context correctly)

• Design reports with usability in mind (clear layout, limited visuals, strong hierarchy)

• Reuse datasets and dataflows instead of duplicating logic

• Ensure reports perform well under realistic usage conditions

 

AND IT’S GREAT TO HAVE

• Experience working with Salesforce or similar CRM systems

• Exposure to CI/CD or deployment pipelines in Power BI

• Familiarity with Git or version control practices

• Experience in SaaS or RevOps environments

• Basic understanding of APIs and data integration patterns
