About the role
- Own the product vision and roadmap for all data ingested into the platform, making strategic decisions on which datasets unlock the most value for customers and product development.
- Make critical build vs. buy decisions on strategically important land use, real estate, and infrastructure datasets, and own commercial negotiations with data vendors and partners.
- Define how data is surfaced, structured, and made accessible across the platform to accelerate product development and improve user workflows.
- Partner with engineering to design data infrastructure, APIs, and integration strategies that scale as the platform grows.
- Work cross-functionally with product teams to understand their data needs, prioritize dataset acquisitions, and eliminate data bottlenecks.
- Establish the framework for evaluating data quality, coverage, and ROI, ensuring we invest in datasets that drive measurable business outcomes.
- Prototype rapidly with messy geospatial and land use datasets when needed, building conviction through hands-on exploration before committing engineering resources.
- 4+ years of product management, data science, software engineering, or analytics experience.
- 1+ years of early-stage startup experience.
- Strong experience working with data products, platforms, or infrastructure.
- Proven ability to work through ambiguous data problems and turn insights into clear product requirements.
- Technically fluent—comfortable working with APIs, databases, data models, and evaluating dataset quality.
- Experience making strategic decisions about data investments with limited information.
- Skilled at balancing immediate product needs with long-term platform scalability.
- A systems thinker who connects data decisions to product outcomes and business impact.
- A fast learner who can evaluate unfamiliar datasets, understand their structure and limitations, and assess their strategic value in new domains.
- Scrappy and hands-on—willing to dive into messy data yourself to build conviction and accelerate decision-making.
- Commercially minded, always weighing the cost of data acquisition against the value it unlocks for customers and internal teams.
- Ruthlessly protective of data quality and platform integrity while maintaining velocity.
- Excited about the future of AI, geospatial technology, and building infrastructure that powers the energy transition.
- Former founder or experience building data platforms or infrastructure products.
- Experience with GIS, real estate, or infrastructure datasets (zoning, parcels, electrical infrastructure, environmental layers, etc.).
- Comfortable with Python and SQL for exploratory data analysis and prototyping.
- Experience with geospatial tools (QGIS, PostGIS, etc.) or working with spatial data.
- Write regularly and maintain a strong perspective about data strategy, infrastructure, or energy tech (blog, Substack, etc.).
