About the role
- Contractor Shadowing: Actively shadow and supervise the electrical contractor on-site to validate that all installations are being properly and safely executed.
- Quality Control Inspections: Perform routine inspections of electrical systems, ensuring compliance with project specifications, approved drawings, and industry standards.
- Issue Management: Identify, document, and track installation deficiencies, deviations, or non-conformance reports (NCRs) using project management software.
- Level 4 Commissioning: Participate in and support Level 4 commissioning activities under the direction of the Commissioning Authority (CxA).
- Level 5 Commissioning (IST): Actively support Level 5 Integrated Systems Testing (IST) to verify total data center system reliability and redundancy.
- Documentation: Ensure all QA/QC checklists, test sheets, and commissioning documentation are accurately completed and archived.
- Maintain real-time tracking of quality metrics and construction progress using Procore.
- Review and align field activities with the master project schedule utilizing Microsoft Project.
- Work Week: Monday through Friday.
- Hours: Approximately 8 to 10 hours per day (daily start/end times to be aligned with site construction hours).
- Location: On-site (Data Center Construction Site).
- Data Center Experience: 2+ years of direct QA/QC or commissioning experience in mission-critical data center environments (Required).
- Hyperscale Experience: 2+ years of experience on a Hyperscale data center build is preferred.
- Education/Licenses: No specific certifications or licenses are required. A background as a Journeyman Electrician is a plus.
- Electrical Systems: Strong technical understanding of large-scale infrastructure, including MV/LV switchgear, UPS systems, backup generators, and PDUs.
- Commissioning: Familiarity with the data center commissioning framework, specifically executing field checks for Level 4 (Functional Testing) and Level 5 (Integrated Systems Testing / IST).
- Software: Proficient with Construction Software (Example: Procore).
- Contractor Oversight: Proven ability to shadow electrical contractors, inspect installation quality (torque, terminations, routing), and enforce project specs.
- Communication: Clear verbal and written skills to collaborate effectively with field contractors and the Commissioning Authority (CxA).
- Must be able to walk, stand, stoop, twist, bend, and climb stairs or ladders for extended periods while navigating uneven, unpaved, or obstructed terrain.
- Must be able to lift, carry, push, or pull up to 50 pounds on an occasional basis.
- Must be able to drive between job sites and access all areas of an active construction zone, including raised platforms, scaffolding, and confined spaces.
- Must be able to tolerate exposure to outdoor weather conditions, dust, and construction-related noise, vibrations, and odors.
- Must be able to communicate effectively with contractors, engineers, and site personnel, and maintain situational awareness in high-activity environments.
- Personal protective equipment (PPE), including hard hats, safety vests, hearing protection, and steel-toe boots, is required.
- Must have sufficient visual acuity to read drawings, specifications, and safety signage, and to observe site activity.
