About the role

<p>The Quality Control Engineer owns incoming inspection and supplier quality for all parts, components, and sub-assemblies entering Allied Maker’s production process.&nbsp;Working across materials including hand-blown glass, machined and spun metals, alabaster, and wood, this role defines quality standards, builds inspection systems, and partners with vendors to resolve issues at the root cause.&nbsp;This role is critical to maintaining the craft, consistency, and reliability expected from Allied Maker products.</p> <hr> <h3><span class="s1"><strong>Key Responsibilities</strong></span></h3> <p class="p3"><strong>Incoming Inspection Across Materials</strong></p> <ul> <li>Develop inspection plans, sampling strategies, and acceptance standards for each material type</li> <li>Inspect glass for dimensional accuracy, clarity, inclusions, and color consistency</li> <li>Inspect machined/spun metals for dimensional conformance, wall thickness, and surface finish</li> <li>Evaluate alabaster for veining, translucency, and structural integrity</li> <li>Verify wood components for species, moisture content, joinery, and finish quality</li> </ul> <p class="p3"><strong>Supplier Quality &amp; Vendor Development</strong></p> <ul> <li>Act as primary quality contact for vendors</li> <li>Lead root-cause analysis (8D, 5-Why, Fishbone) and corrective actions</li> <li>Qualify new suppliers and parts via First Article Inspection (FAI)</li> <li>Track supplier performance (defects, responsiveness, quality consistency)</li> <li>Conduct supplier audits and site visits</li> </ul> <p class="p3"><strong>Nonconformance &amp; Continuous Improvement</strong></p> <ul> <li>Disposition nonconforming material (rework, RTV, scrap, use-as-is)</li> <li>Lead cross-functional MRB decisions</li> <li>Analyze defect trends and cost of poor quality</li> <li>Drive improvements to reduce scrap, rework, and disruptions</li> <li>Partner with Assembly &amp; Manufacturing Engineering on upstream improvements</li> </ul> <p class="p3"><strong>Standards &amp; Documentation</strong></p> <ul> <li>Build and maintain inspection standards and boundary samples</li> <li>Create clear, repeatable inspection work instructions</li> <li>Maintain calibration of measurement tools and traceable records</li> <li>Ensure documentation is properly recorded in NetSuite and internal systems</li> <li>Support UL compliance by validating incoming components</li> </ul> <hr> <h3><span class="s1"><strong>Required Qualifications</strong></span></h3> <ul> <li>Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical, Industrial, Materials, or Manufacturing Engineering (or equivalent experience)</li> <li>3–5 years of quality engineering experience in manufacturing or custom/luxury goods</li> <li>Strong ability to read engineering drawings and GD&amp;T (ASME Y14.5)</li> <li>Proficiency with precision measurement tools (calipers, micrometers, gauges, etc.)</li> <li>Experience leading root-cause investigations and supplier corrective actions</li> <li>Ability to define and standardize subjective quality (visual / craftsmanship)</li> <li>Strong communication skills with internal teams and external vendors</li> </ul> <hr> <h3><span class="s1"><strong>Preferred Qualifications</strong></span></h3> <ul> <li>Experience in lighting, luxury goods, architectural hardware, or custom furniture</li> <li>Familiarity with UL 1598 / UL 8750 standards</li> <li>ASQ certification (CQE, CQA) or Lean / Six Sigma</li> <li>Experience with natural materials (stone, glass, wood, alabaster)</li> <li>Experience with NetSuite or similar systems</li> </ul> <hr> <h3><span class="s1"><strong>Compensation &amp; Benefits</strong></span></h3> <ul> <li>Salary: $75,000 – $95,000 (based on experience)</li> <li>Discretionary performance bonus</li> <li>Medical, dental, and vision insurance</li> <li>401(k) with company match</li> <li>PTO, paid holidays, parental leave</li> <li>Employer-paid life and disability insurance</li> <li>Safety shoe &amp; eyewear allowance</li> <li>Employee product discount</li> </ul> <hr> <h3><span class="s1"><strong>Work Environment &amp; Physical Requirements</strong></span></h3> <ul> <li>On-site in Glen Cove workshop</li> <li>Split between the inspection area, production floor, and desk work</li> <li>Exposure to shop environment (dust, finishes, moving equipment)</li> <li>PPE required in designated areas</li> <li>Must be able to stand/walk for extended periods</li> <li>Lift up to 35 lbs and handle fragile materials</li> <li>Occasional travel to vendors</li> </ul> <hr> <h3><span class="s1"><strong>About Allied Maker</strong></span></h3> <p class="p2">Allied Maker is an American design and manufacturing studio creating luxury-crafted lighting fixtures.
