About the role

Job Title: Real Estate Bookkeeper

Job Summary:

We are seeking a highly skilled and detail-oriented Real Estate Bookkeeper with Appfolio experience to manage financial transactions, maintain accurate records, and support property management operations. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in real estate accounting, proficiency in bookkeeping software, and the ability to analyze financial data to ensure compliance and efficiency.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Appfolio Management: Utilize Appfolio for rent collection, owner distributions, expense tracking, and financial reporting.
  • Financial Transactions: Process accounts payable and receivable, reconcile bank statements, and manage general ledger entries.
  • Budgeting & Reporting: Prepare financial statements, balance sheets, and cash flow reports. Assist in budget preparation and forecasting.
  • Property Accounting: Maintain tenant and owner account records, process lease agreements, and track rental income.
  • Tax Compliance: Ensure adherence to tax regulations, assist with filings, and maintain accurate financial documentation.
  • Vendor & Payroll Management: Process vendor payments, manage payroll transactions, and ensure timely disbursements.
  • Audit & Compliance: Conduct periodic financial audits, ensure compliance with accounting standards, and provide recommendations for financial improvements.

Qualifications:

  • Education: Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field (preferred but not required).
  • Experience: Minimum of 2-5 years of bookkeeping experience, preferably in real estate or property management.
  • Software Proficiency: Extensive experience with Appfolio and QuickBooks. Familiarity with other accounting tools like Yardi, Buildium, and Xero is a plus.
  • Skills:
    • Strong understanding of real estate accounting principles.
    • Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills.
    • High attention to detail and accuracy in financial reporting.
    • Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
    • Ability to work independently and manage multiple tasks efficiently.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience working with multi-family properties or commercial real estate.
  • Knowledge of tax regulations related to real estate transactions.
  • Familiarity with financial forecasting and budgeting for property management.
