Who We Are: CAMBA is a community of staff, volunteers, clients, donors, neighbors and partners who work together to build an inclusive New York City, where all children and adults have access to the resources and supports they need to thrive.  We take a comprehensive approach by offering more than 180 integrated programs in:  Education & Youth Development, Family Support, Job Training & Employment Support Services, Health, Housing, and Legal Services. We reach more than 72,000 individuals and families each year at our 100 locations, including 10,000 youth.  CAMBA serves a diverse cross section of New Yorkers from new mothers in Brownsville to job seekers in the Rockaways. More than half of our clients are immigrants and refugees from around the globe. Over 85% of our families live in poverty, reflecting the challenges faced by nearly 1.7 million New Yorkers today.
 

King Gardens Supportive Housing is a building which was developed and is operated by Dunn Development Corp., a private developer.  King Gardens is a newly constructed residential building located on 211 Riverdale Avenue and the corner of Rockaway Avenue in the Brownsville section of Brooklyn.  The project consists of a six-story elevator building containing 66 residential units, with 65 units of rental housing and one superintendent’s unit. CAMBA, Inc. is the on-site services provider at King Gardens. Twenty apartments, approximately 30% of the units in the building, will be master leased by CAMBA and will house Population A chronically homeless single seniors, ages 62 and over, who are diagnosed as SPMI (seriously and persistently mentally ill) or MICA (mentally III and chemically addicted). The remaining 45 units are occupied by community seniors, who may require some services.

Position: Part-Time Recreation Aide

Reports To: Program Manager

Location: 211 Riverdale Avenue, Brooklyn NY 11212

  • Assist with the teaching of physical education, arts and crafts, performing arts, music, sports, ADL or other recreational activities.
  • Help plan, coordinate and facilitate social and/or peer support events for clients.
  • Organize, and co-facilitate group community activities.
  • Assist with the design and production of aesthetic visuals for public spaces of the shelter which reflect cultural, seasonal and programmatic themes.
  • Communicate effectively with clients, CAMBA staff, community members and with funders.
  • Ensure that recreation facilities and equipment are used properly.
  • Monitor clients' progress toward their goals (dates achieved) and document via progress notes.
  • Market the program in order to recruit clients.
  • Provide all required information for weekly/monthly/quarterly/annual reports.
  • May input client data and client progress information into automated database.

  • High school diploma or G.E.D. and/or equivalent experience.

  • Experience developing and coordinating recreational activities that reinforce a client’s desire to lead a clean/sober/independent life with a non-profit or other organization that services special needs or related populations.

Compensation: $18.36 hourly
When salary ranges are listed, the range would represent the low and high end for the applicable position & program. The salary offered would be based on various factors unique to each program and candidate. This includes but is not limited to experience, education, budget and/or program size, internal equity, skills and other factors that may be required for the position and organization.

Status: Part-time (17 hours per week)
