In this dual-role position, you’ll combine essential services maintenance with municipal services supervision, offering a practical, varied workload and direct day-to-day involvement in the community, supported by housing, utilities and a company vehicle.

About the Opportunity

This is a permanent residential role based in Kalumburu, Western Australia, where you will live and work within the community, supporting both infrastructure reliability and municipal services delivery.

Your role will involve a combination of technical and supervisory responsibilities, with a strong focus on delivering consistent, reliable services.

 

You will be responsible for:

 

Essential Services (Technical Focus) 

• Inspection, monitoring, and basic maintenance of water and wastewater systems  

• Routine checks of bores, pumps, tanks, distribution systems, and treatment facilities  

• Identifying faults, undertaking basic repairs, and escalating issues where required  

• Monitoring plant alarms, performance, and operational effectiveness  

• Maintaining accurate service records and reporting  

Municipal Services (Supervisory Focus) 

• Providing leadership, guidance, and support to a small, community-based workforce, with a strong focus on building trust, establishing solid team foundations, and fostering the development of local staff through coaching and mentoring

• Coordinating daily community maintenance activities including:  

• Waste management and landfill operations  

• Vegetation control and firebreak maintenance  

• General upkeep of community areas  

Location – Kalumburu, WA

This is a residential role based in Kalumburu, Western Australia.

Kalumburu offers the opportunity to live and work in a remote coastal setting, as part of a small and established community

While the role is remote, you will be well supported by KRSP and structured time away from community through rostered breaks.

What We’re Looking For 

This role requires a hands-on, self-sufficient individual who is comfortable working in remote environments and able to balance both technical and supervisory responsibilities.

Essential Requirements 

• Demonstrated leadership or supervisory experience
• Demonstrated ability to build strong working relationships and support team development through coaching and mentoring
• Ability to live and work in a remote community environment  

• Strong organisational skills and ability to work autonomously with minimal supervision  

• Experience in maintenance, utilities, municipal services, or similar field-based roles  

• Current C Class Driver’s Licence  

• National Police Clearance  

• First Aid Certificate  

• Full Australian working rights  

Highly Regarded 

• Trade qualification (mechanical, electrical, plumbing, or similar)  

• Experience working with power, water, or wastewater systems  

• Experience with maintenance of plant and equipment
• Previous experience in remote or regional locations  

• Experience working within or alongside Indigenous communities
