About the role

Job Title: Sheet Metal Foreman

Reports To: Project Manager / Superintendent
Department: Field Operations


Position Summary

The Sheet Metal Foreman is responsible for leading field crews in the installation, fabrication, and assembly of sheet metal ductwork and related HVAC components on commercial and industrial projects. This role ensures work is performed safely, efficiently, and in compliance with project specifications, company standards, and building codes. The Sheet Metal Foreman serves as the primary point of contact between field crews and project management.


Key Responsibilities

  • Crew Leadership: Supervise and direct sheet metal installers, apprentices, and helpers to ensure productivity and quality workmanship.
  • Planning & Coordination: Review drawings, blueprints, and specifications to plan daily work, material needs, and manpower requirements.
  • Installation Oversight: Ensure accurate installation of ductwork, fittings, supports, and accessories according to project requirements.
  • Quality Control: Inspect completed work for adherence to specifications, code compliance, and company standards.
  • Safety Management: Promote and enforce company safety policies, conduct toolbox talks, and ensure crews follow OSHA regulations.
  • Scheduling & Reporting: Coordinate with project managers and superintendents regarding scheduling, progress updates, and workforce needs.
  • Material Management: Track material usage, request deliveries, and minimize waste.
  • Training & Mentorship: Provide guidance and on-the-job training to apprentices and less-experienced workers.
  • Problem Solving: Identify field issues, recommend solutions, and work with project teams to resolve conflicts.


Qualifications

  • Minimum 5+ years of sheet metal installation experience in commercial/industrial HVAC.
  • Prior experience in a foreman or crew lead role strongly preferred.
  • Strong knowledge of sheet metal fabrication, ductwork systems, and HVAC components.
  • Ability to read and interpret mechanical drawings, specifications, and shop drawings.
  • Proven leadership, communication, and organizational skills.
  • Strong commitment to workplace safety.
  • OSHA 30 certification preferred (or willingness to obtain).
  • Valid driver’s license and reliable transportation.


Physical Requirements

  • Ability to stand, walk, bend, and lift up to 50 lbs for extended periods.
  • Comfortable working at heights, on ladders, and in varying weather conditions.


Work Environment

  • Field-based position at job sites with exposure to construction environments.
  • May require overtime, evenings, or weekends depending on project schedule.
