<p><strong>About the Role</strong></p>
<p>The Shift Manager is responsible for the day-to-day leadership and performance of a production shift within the THG Blackpool manufacturing site, producing tablets and capsules across a 2-shift operation (M–F).</p>
<p>This role focuses on delivering safe, efficient, and compliant operations, while driving performance against production targets and embedding consistent ways of working. The Shift Manager will act as a hands-on, visible leader on shift, working closely with operators to ensure output, quality, and safety standards are met.</p>
<p>Working under the guidance of the Site Manager, the role will also support continuous improvement initiatives and team capability development, helping to stabilise and enhance site performance.</p>
<p>This is an excellent opportunity for a developing manufacturing leader looking to progress within a fast-paced, regulated production environment.</p>
<p><strong>As a Shift Manager in Blackpool you will:</strong></p>
<ol>
<li><strong> Shift Leadership & Operational Delivery</strong></li>
</ol>
<ul>
<li>Lead and coordinate all production activities during the shift to deliver the production plan safely and efficiently.</li>
<li>Take accountability for shift performance across safety, quality, delivery, and cost.</li>
<li>Act as a visible, shop floor-based leader, setting standards and driving accountability.</li>
<li>Ensure effective deployment of labour, materials, and equipment.</li>
<li>Drive performance against key KPIs (output, efficiency, downtime, waste, labour utilisation).</li>
</ul>
<ol>
<li><strong> Health, Safety & Compliance</strong></li>
</ol>
<ul>
<li>Ensure a safe working environment is maintained at all times during the shift.</li>
<li>Enforce adherence to GMP and site compliance standards, maintaining audit readiness.</li>
<li>Conduct shift-based safety checks, briefings, and incident follow-up.</li>
<li>Promote a strong, practical safety culture through daily behaviours and engagement.</li>
</ul>
<ol>
<li><strong> Quality & Production Standards</strong></li>
</ol>
<ul>
<li>Ensure all production activities meet required quality standards and specifications.</li>
<li>Support investigations (RCA), deviations, and CAPA activities.</li>
<li>Drive improvements in right-first-time, reducing waste and rework.</li>
<li>Escalate quality issues in a timely and structured manner.</li>
</ul>
<ol>
<li><strong> People Leadership & Development</strong></li>
</ol>
<ul>
<li>Lead, coach, and develop a team of 5–15 operators.</li>
<li>Set clear expectations, monitor performance, and provide regular feedback.</li>
<li>Support training, onboarding, and skill development across the shift team.</li>
<li>Drive engagement and foster a positive, accountable team culture.</li>
</ul>
<ol>
<li><strong> Equipment & Process Performance</strong></li>
</ol>
<ul>
<li>Work closely with engineering support to ensure equipment reliability.</li>
<li>Support delivery of basic asset care and preventative maintenance activities.</li>
<li>Identify and respond to downtime issues, escalating where required.</li>
<li>Drive adherence to standard operating procedures and process consistency.</li>
</ul>
<ol>
<li><strong> Cost Control & Efficiency</strong></li>
</ol>
<ul>
<li>Support effective management of labour and materials within the shift.</li>
<li>Identify opportunities to improve efficiency and reduce waste.</li>
<li>Ensure performance improvements do not compromise safety or quality.</li>
</ul>
<ol>
<li><strong> Continuous Improvement</strong></li>
</ol>
<ul>
<li>Identify and implement practical, shift-level improvements to enhance performance.</li>
<li>Support wider site improvement initiatives led by the Site Manager or central teams.</li>
<li>Encourage problem-solving and continuous improvement mindset within the team.</li>
</ul>
<ol>
<li><strong> Communication & Reporting</strong></li>
</ol>
<ul>
<li>Provide clear handovers between shifts, ensuring continuity of operations.</li>
<li>Report shift performance, issues, and risks to the Site Manager.</li>
<li>Ensure effective communication across functions (Quality, Engineering, Planning).</li>
</ul>
<p><strong>What skills and experience do I need for this role?<br></strong></p>
<p><strong>Essential</strong></p>
<ul>
<li>Experience in a manufacturing or production leadership role (e.g. Team Leader, Supervisor, Shift Manager).</li>
<li>Experience working in a regulated environment (GMP, food, pharma, nutraceutical, or similar).</li>
<li>Proven ability to manage teams and deliver against production targets.</li>
<li>Hands-on leadership style with strong shop floor presence.</li>
<li>Strong organisational and problem-solving skills.</li>
<li>Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced, shift-based environment.</li>
</ul>
<p><strong>Desirable</strong></p>
<ul>
<li>Experience in tablet, capsule, or food manufacturing.</li>
<li>Knowledge of lean manufacturing or continuous improvement tools.</li>
<li>Understanding of performance metrics such as OEE, waste, and efficiency.</li>
</ul>
