Software Development Engineer in Test | SDET

<div class="content-intro"><p><strong>It's a new day with a new opportunity at 8am!&nbsp;</strong></p></div><p><strong>About the role:</strong></p> <p>8am is hiring a <strong>Software Development Engineer in Test</strong> to embed within our <strong>SaaS Platform</strong> team, the group that owns customer identity, authentication, provisioning, roles and permissions, risk profiling, and the APIs every other 8am product consumes. <strong>You will own the test automation strategy</strong> for that team and partner with engineers from requirements through release.</p> <p><strong>We do not embed SDETs everywhere.</strong> We place them where the rate of change and blast radius warrant it. SaaS Platform is one of those places. QE owns test strategy, risk assessment, and quality gates; SDETs own the automation that makes those gates enforceable. <strong>Your focus is end-to-end flow coverage of the critical user journeys</strong> that exercise the platform in production, plus <strong>contract coverage of the APIs</strong> downstream products depend on. We do not chase atomic line coverage at the E2E layer. <strong>Your work directly supports our Defect Leakage Rate target of under 15%.</strong></p> <p><em>This role is hired through an Employer of Record (EOR) partner in the Czech Republic.</em></p> <p><strong>About us:</strong></p> <p>8am builds software that helps professionals run stronger businesses. As we continue to grow, we’re investing in the next generation of our platform and are looking for experienced engineers who want to help shape its future.</strong></p> <p><strong>What you'll do:</strong></p> <ul> <li><strong>Own the E2E flow automation strategy</strong> for SaaS Platform, prioritizing <strong>critical customer journeys</strong> (auth, provisioning, identity, role and permission flows) over exhaustive atomic coverage.&nbsp;</li> <li>Build and maintain automation in <strong>Python with Playwright</strong> for UI flows and <strong>PyTest for API and contract coverage</strong>, contributing back to our internal framework when you find gaps.</li> <li>Integrate tests into <strong>CircleCI and our tiered quality gates</strong> (PR smoke, nightly, pre-release regression) so gates are enforceable, fast, and trustworthy. <strong>Flaky tests are a defect; treat them like one.</strong></li> <li>Validate <strong>authentication, provisioning, and role/permission flows</strong>, and the <strong>OpenAPI contracts</strong> that downstream products depend on across MyCase, DocketWise, CASEPeer, and LawPay.</li> <li>Partner with the Quality Engineers on your squad/across the organization: <strong>they surface the risk and coverage signals; you close them with automation.</strong></li> <li><strong>Use AI tooling where it accelerates real outcomes:</strong> test plan generation, code review, automation scaffolding, and coverage gap analysis through our <strong>Qase MCP integration</strong>.&nbsp;</li> </ul> <p><strong>About you:</strong></p> <ul> <li><strong>6+ years</strong> in software development or test automation, with <strong>demonstrated experience designing E2E automation around critical flows</strong> rather than chasing coverage targets. Familiarity with <strong>risk-based testing and the test pyramid</strong> as working concepts, not buzzwords.</li> <li><strong>Advanced to expert</strong> in <strong>Python and PyTest</strong>, with deep experience across both <strong>front-end (Playwright)</strong> and <strong>API test automation</strong>.</li> <li><strong>Hands-on experience testing authentication, provisioning, and role/permission systems</strong>, including <strong>OAuth, SAML, and SSO</strong>. Comfortable with <strong>API contract testing</strong> and <strong>OpenAPI specification</strong> development and validation.</li> <li><strong>Advanced SQL</strong> for complex test data setup and validation. <strong>Strong Linux fundamentals</strong> and working knowledge of <strong>TCP/IP, HTTP/HTTPS, DNS, and TLS</strong> for debugging auth and API failures from packet captures or dev tools.</li> <li>Working proficiency with <strong>cloud infrastructure (AWS or GCP)</strong> and <strong>containerization (Docker, Kubernetes)</strong>, and experience integrating tests into <strong>CI/CD pipelines</strong> (CircleCI preferred).</li> <li><strong>Hands-on fluency with AI-assisted development and testing tools</strong> (Claude Code, Cursor, GitHub Copilot, or comparable), including <strong>prompt design that produces reliable output</strong> and the judgment to know when to throw AI output away.</li> <li><strong>Past experience standing up a test automation framework from scratch</strong>, plus exposure to <strong>Quality KPIs, QaaS initiatives, and PCI compliance</strong> in payments or identity systems.</li> <li>Experience with <strong>test case management</strong> (Qase or TestRail), <strong>defect tracking</strong> in Jira, and <strong>mentoring SDETs</strong> to automation proficiency.</li> <li><span style="font-weight: 400;">Demonstrated experience leveraging AI tools and technologies to improve workflows, enhance decision-making, or drive innovation.</span></li> <li><span style="font-weight: 400;">This position is preferably based in Brno, Czech Republic</span></li> </ul> <p><strong>Why join our new 8am Brno hub?</strong></p> <ul> <li><strong>Founding Team Impact:</strong> Be a founding engineer of our new Brno R&amp;D hub.
