As we continue evolving from a system that stores legal work to one that understands and connects it, the systems responsible for identity, authentication, and authorization have become more critical than ever. We're looking for a Staff Software Engineer to help shape the future of our security and access management platform, ensuring customers can securely access the right information at the right time. This is a highly visible, hands-on engineering role where you'll drive technical direction, build production systems, and influence platform architecture that supports thousands of organizations worldwide.</p> <p>You will:</p> <ul> <li>Set and own the technical direction for identity, authentication, authorization, and access management services across the NetDocuments platform.</li> <li>Lead the evolution of our identity infrastructure, helping modernize foundational systems while maintaining stability, security, and compliance requirements.</li> <li>Design and build secure, scalable services using C#/.NET, AWS, and event-driven architecture patterns.</li> <li>Architect solutions that support complex authorization models, enterprise integrations, and high-volume transaction processing.</li> <li>Drive reliability, observability, performance, and scalability improvements across critical platform services.</li> <li>Partner with Product Management, Security, and Engineering teams to deliver secure and resilient customer-facing capabilities.</li> <li>Lead architectural discussions, design reviews, and technical decision-making across multiple engineering teams.</li> <li>Mentor engineers and raise the engineering bar through coaching, collaboration, and technical leadership.</li> <li>Contribute to hiring, team development, and continuous improvement of engineering practices.</li> </ul> <p><strong>What You'll Need to be Successful</strong></p> <ul> <li>7+ years of experience building and operating production software systems at scale.</li> <li>Expert-level proficiency with C#/.NET and modern software engineering practices.</li> <li>Experience designing and operating distributed systems, microservices, and event-driven architectures.</li> <li>Strong understanding of authentication, authorization, identity management, and access control concepts.</li> <li>Experience designing systems that other engineering teams depend on as foundational platform infrastructure.</li> <li>Experience operating cloud-native applications and services within AWS environments.</li> <li>Strong understanding of system reliability, observability, scalability, and operational excellence.</li> <li>Proven ability to lead technical initiatives across teams and influence outcomes without direct authority.</li> <li>Experience navigating ambiguous technical challenges and driving solutions from concept through production.</li> <li>Excellent written and verbal communication skills.</li> <li>Bachelor's degree in Computer Science or a related field, or equivalent practical experience.</li> </ul> <p><strong>What Will Make You Stand Out</strong></p> <ul> <li>You've led a major identity, authentication, or authorization transformation where other teams and customers depended on the systems you were changing.</li> <li>You've owned access control systems where a mistake could expose sensitive customer data, create compliance risk, or have legal consequences.</li> <li>You've designed permission models for complex organizations with competing security, usability, and scalability requirements.</li> <li>You've successfully modernized legacy platform infrastructure while maintaining uptime, customer trust, and operational stability.</li> <li>You've operated systems that were subject to external audits, regulatory oversight, or strict compliance requirements.</li> <li>You've been the technical decision-maker for critical platform services and can clearly explain the tradeoffs behind architectural decisions that impacted multiple teams.</li> <li>You've worked in an environment where security, identity, and access management were treated as core business functions rather than supporting features.</li> <li>You've built trust and influence across engineering teams, helping drive adoption of platform standards and architectural changes without relying on organizational authority.</li> </ul> <p><strong>What You'll Love About NetDocuments</strong></p> <ul> <li>The People!</li> <li>90% healthcare premiums company covered</li> <li>HSA company contribution</li> <li>401K match at 4% with immediate vesting</li> <li>Flexible PTO (typically 3 to 4 weeks a year)</li> <li>10 paid holidays</li> <li>Monthly contributions for life activities &amp; wellness</li> <li>Access to LinkedIn Learning with monthly dedicated time to explore</li> </ul> <p>&nbsp;</p> <p><strong>Compensation Transparency</strong></p> <p>The compensation range for this position is:&nbsp;$170,000 - $190,000</p> <p>The posted cash compensation for this position includes on target earnings, base salary and variable if applicable. Some roles may qualify for overtime pay.
