<p><strong>Software Safety Engineer</strong></p>
<p><strong>Work Location: </strong>Huntsville, AL</p>
<p><strong>Schedule: </strong>Full Time</p>
<p>IronMountain Solutions is searching for a Software Safety Engineer to support a customer located in Huntsville, AL. An ideal candidate for this position must be able to work independently, often acting without direct supervision, be self-motivated, and able to build strong relationships across multiple project offices with all levels of Government employees.</p>
<p> Job Duties and Responsibilities</p>
<ul>
<li>Perform software and firmware safety analysis across the system lifecycle.</li>
<li>Identify, assess, and document software safety hazards, risks, and mitigations.</li>
<li>Support system safety activities for identified Government defense technologies, such as radars, airframes, command and control systems amongst others.</li>
<li>Evaluate software compliance with safety, airworthiness, and program requirements.</li>
<li>Analyze requirements, design, code, test, and operational data for safety impacts.</li>
<li>Support development and maintenance of safety artifacts (hazard analyses, safety assessments, risk matrices).</li>
<li>Support verification and validation of software safety requirements and controls.</li>
<li>Participate in safety reviews, audits, and program technical reviews.</li>
<li>Collaborate with systems, software, firmware, test, IV&V, and quality teams.</li>
<li>Document findings, recommendations, and risk assessments clearly and accurately.</li>
<li>Lead software safety analysis activities for assigned subsystems and functional areas.</li>
<li>Engage directly with program teams and customers to support safety objectives and clarify requirements.</li>
<li>Provide technical leadership in software safety, hazard analysis, and risk‑management practices.</li>
<li>Support major system reviews, certification activities, and customer-facing safety engagements.</li>
<li>Advise program leadership on software safety considerations, mission risk, and mitigation approaches.</li>
<li>While performing the duties of this job, the employee is occasionally required to stand; walk; sit; use tools or controls; normal physical activity (reach with hands and arms; climb stairs); and communicate effectively with all levels of employees and leadership. The employee must occasionally lift or move office products and supplies, up to 25 pounds.</li>
</ul>
<p>Required Qualifications and Competencies</p>
<ul>
<li>Education - Bachelor’s degree in computer science or related discipline.</li>
<li>Background in software safety, system safety, software engineering, firmware, or embedded systems (academic or professional).</li>
<li>Strong understanding of software development processes, lifecycle methodologies, and system safety principles.</li>
<li>Proven ability to evaluate complex technical systems and clearly document safety analyses and findings.</li>
<li>Demonstrated analytical skills and sound risk‑based decision‑making.</li>
<li>High attention to detail, particularly in safety‑critical environments.</li>
<li>Excellent technical writing and communication skills.</li>
<li>Effective collaborator across multidisciplinary engineering teams.</li>
<li>Consistent sound judgment and strong commitment to mission and personnel safety. attention to detail in safety-critical environments.</li>

<p>Preferred Qualifications</p>
<ul>
<li>Master’s degree in computer science or related discipline, or equivalent professional experience. At least 10 years of progressively complex systems engineering experience, including integration of advanced hardware–software systems.</li>
<li>Experience supporting Department of War systems</li>
<li>Experience with software IV&V, software assurance, or mission assurance.</li>
<li>Experience with embedded software and firmware safety.</li>
<li>Familiarity with safety and airworthiness including but not limited to standards such as MIL-STD-882, DO-178, ARP4754, or equivalent. </li>
</ul>
<p>Required Travel: 10%</p>
<p><strong>Clearance Requirements: </strong>The ability to obtain and maintain a Secret security clearance is required. Per federal requirements, only U.S. citizens are eligible for this level of clearance.</p>
