We have an exciting opportunity for an experienced Senior Solicitor to join our Legal team.  This role is based in our Lambton Quay office in Wellington.

Kōrero mō te tūranga | About the role

Legal work for Manatū Taonga is hugely varied and interesting, and includes public and administrative law, privacy and official information, contract and commercial law, policy development and law reform, intellectual property law, resource management law, litigation, and Te Tiriti o Waitangi/Treaty of Waitangi related issues. As well as strong internal relationships we work closely with our Crown entities and other funded agencies.

This position has a particular focus on ensuring best practice procurement processes; drafting, negotiating and managing contracts and cross-government reporting.

Kōrero mōu | About you

You will bring strong interpersonal skills and thrive in a small, agile team. You use sound judgement, creativity and analysis to deliver results, communicate clearly, take initiative and meet deadlines. You are confident leading legal support for internal clients.

You must have been admitted as a Barrister and Solicitor in New Zealand and have (or be eligible for) a current practising certificate with five plus years PQE in a relevant area of law.

Experience in providing legal advice on Te Tiriti o Waitangi/Treaty of Waitangi and working with the Māori Land Court, iwi, public law, procurement and in drafting and reviewing contracts would be particularly useful for this role.  Understanding of the public sector and Crown entities is desirable.

You will have the ability and confidence to lead the provision of legal support to internal client groups and experience in some of the areas relevant to this role.
