About the role

  • Lead the daily field operations for assigned projects, ensuring work is performed safely, efficiently, and in accordance with contract documents.
  • Review drawings, specifications, submittals, RFIs, and addenda to fully understand the scope of work and sequence of construction.
  • Participate in project kick-off meetings with the Project Manager and Estimator to review schedule, phasing, special conditions, subcontractor scope, and resource needs.
  • Develop and maintain two-week look-ahead schedules, aligning field activities with the overall project schedule.
  • Identify potential conflicts or constructability issues early and collaborate with the Project Manager, design team, and subcontractors to resolve them.
  • Coordinate and sequence the work of all trades to maintain progress and minimize conflicts and downtime.
  • Conduct regular on-site coordination meetings with subcontractors and document meeting minutes.
  • Ensure subcontractors understand Rossi Builders’ safety requirements, jobsite rules, schedule expectations, and quality standards.
  • Maintain positive, professional relationships with clients, architects, engineers, inspectors, and neighboring tenants or building representatives.
  • Champion a safety-first culture on the jobsite, consistent with Rossi Builders’ safety program and all applicable federal, state, and local regulations.
  • Conduct regular safety (tailgate) meetings with Rossi field staff and collect weekly safety meeting reports from subcontractors.
  • Ensure all required postings (OSHA, state and local requirements) and MSDS/SDS documents are in place and job-specific.
  • Immediately report any incidents, near misses, or safety concerns to the Safety Officer and Project Manager, and ensure required documentation is completed.
  • Monitor work in place daily to verify compliance with drawings, specifications, and Rossi Builders’ quality standards.
  • Identify deficiencies early, direct corrections, and issue deficiency notices as needed.
  • Oversee pre-punch and punch list activities; ensure outstanding items are completed in a timely manner.
  • Maintain a clean, orderly, and secure jobsite; ensure all trades clean up daily and leave the site in excellent condition at project completion.
  • Maintain accurate daily logs of jobsite activities, including manpower, inspections, visitors, weather, significant events, and coordination with inspectors, architects, and owners.
  • Track and document changes in the field, including T&M work and field directives, using Rossi Builders’ change order tickets and procedures.
  • Coordinate with the Project Manager on all subcontractor change tickets prior to approval and ensure appropriate backup for time and materials.
  • Ensure all required documentation (RFIs, bulletins, addenda, field modifications) is reflected on the current set of drawings.
  • Forecast manpower needs and coordinate with the Labor Coordinator and Project Manager regarding hiring, assignments, and layoffs.
  • Provide field onboarding for new hires, including safety orientation, PPE requirements, and job-specific expectations.
  • Requisition materials, tools, and equipment needed for the project, ensuring they are delivered in time to support the schedule.
  • Coordinate with the Equipment Manager on tool assignments, repairs, returns, and tracking of company assets; ensure proper care and cleaning of all tools and equipment.
  • Manage city bonds and public works permits related to the project and ensure all closeout requirements are met.
  • Oversee project closeout tasks, including inspections, final cleaning, punch list completion, and return of unused materials and equipment.
  • Ensure all field operations comply with Rossi Builders’ policies and procedures and all applicable laws and regulations.
  • High school diploma or equivalent required.
  • Additional technical training, trade school, or construction management coursework a plus.
  • Minimum 5 years of experience in field construction, with at least several years in a supervisory or lead role.
  • Experience with commercial construction in the San Francisco Bay Area strongly preferred.
  • Strong leadership and people-management skills, with the ability to build trust and accountability on site.
  • Excellent organizational and time-management skills; able to manage multiple priorities and adapt quickly to changes in workload and schedule.
  • Solid understanding of construction means and methods, sequencing, and trade coordination.
  • Working knowledge of safety regulations and best practices (OSHA, Cal/OSHA, etc.).
  • Comfortable reading and interpreting plans, specifications, and contract documents.
  • Clear, professional communication skills (verbal and written) with clients, design teams, inspectors, and internal staff.
  • Strong problem-solving and decision-making skills, with sound judgment in the field.
  • Proficiency in basic computer applications and construction documentation tools (e.g., email, PDF markup, scheduling tools, daily report software) is preferred.
  • Ability to stand, walk, climb stairs and ladders, and work on active construction sites for extended periods.
  • Ability to work in varying weather conditions and in close quarters where required.
  • Must hold a valid driver’s license and be able to travel to job sites within the San Francisco Bay Area.
