<p data-pm-slice="1 1 []"><span style="font-family: arial, helvetica, sans-serif;"><em>This role follows a hybrid work schedule and you will report to a Systems Engineer Lead.<br></em></span></p>
<p data-pm-slice="1 1 []"><span style="font-family: arial, helvetica, sans-serif;"><strong>You will:</strong></span></p>
<ul>
<li>Own the systems engineering for novel rider facing features including but not limited to early pullovers, rider pick up, and rider drop off</li>
<li>Work with cross functional teams including software engineers, product managers, safety engineers, and operations leads to develop requirements and system architecture for new features that support critical user journeys</li>
<li>Take ownership of the solution, considering applicability to long term goals, and appropriately use engineering judgement and experience to inform paths forward</li>
<li>Collaborate closely with software engineers on design documents and support implementation with developmental testing</li>
<li>Partner with our test engineering team to develop rigorous and scalable recurring testing to prevent regressions</li>
<li>Create dashboards and monitoring to validate in field performance and be the point person to debug field issues when they occur, owning comprehensive cross functional retrospectives as needed</li>
</ul>
<p><span style="font-family: arial, helvetica, sans-serif;"><strong>You have:</strong></span></p>
<ul>
<li>A bachelor’s degree in computer science, electrical engineering, or other technical field</li>
<li>5+ years of experience in systems engineering, software development, or related field</li>
<li>A systems engineering mindset and a proactive, data-driven approach to fixing problems</li>
<li>An ability to read C++ to understand feature implementation and debug issues more effectively and an ability to write code for querying data sets (SQL) and creating dashboards</li>
<li>Ability to think about the rider and an understanding of what might pose a safety risk for a given feature</li>
<li>Aptitude to apply existing technical depth to new areas and learn quickly</li>
</ul>
<p><span style="font-family: arial, helvetica, sans-serif;"><strong>We prefer:</strong></span></p>
<ul>
<li>Experience in safety critical aspects of the operation of fleets or delivery of production products at scale</li>
<li>Experience working on features or products with a user experience focus</li>
<li>Experience defining requirements such as precision and recall for machine learning perception models</li>
<li>Experience performing or collaborating on safety analyses (e.g., Hazard and Risk Assessment, Failure Modes and Effects Analysis (FMEA), Fault Tree Analysis, System-theoretic Process Analysis (STPA), Safety of the Intended Function (SOTIF), etc.)</li>
</ul><div class="content-pay-transparency"><div class="pay-input"><div class="description"><p><span style="font-weight: 400;">The expected base salary range for this full-time position across US locations is listed below. Actual starting pay will be based on job-related factors, including exact work location, experience, relevant training and education, and skill level. Your recruiter can share more about the specific salary range for the role location or, if the role can be performed remote, the specific salary range for your preferred location, during the hiring process. </span></p>
<p><span style="font-weight: 400;">Waymo employees are also eligible to participate in Waymo’s discretionary annual bonus program, equity incentive plan, and generous Company benefits program, subject to eligibility requirements. </span></p></div><div class="title">Salary Range</div><div class="pay-range"><span>$196,000</span><span class="divider">—</span><span>$248,000 USD</span></div></div></div>
