City of Port Lincoln is a seeking a Team Leader - Nautilus, Events and Activation. This role is critical to transforming Nautilus Arts Centre into a active space for community and private use. The individual will be required to operate outside of business hours as the Nautilus Arts Centre is open 7 days per week, and events can be held at varying times - penalty rates apply for outside of business hours work. 


  • Part-time role, 65 hours per fortnight

  • $87,215.11 - $91,284.60 annual salary (pro rata)

  • Leads the effective operation and activation of the Nautilus Arts Centre as a multi-use cultural and community facility, delivering economic, tourism and community outcomes for the City of Port Lincoln
  • Drives improved utilisation, financial performance and revenue generation through the strategic coordination of programming, venue hire and service delivery activities
  • Plans, coordinates and delivers a diverse program of local, regional and touring events, performances and exhibitions that increase community access, participation and cultural engagement
  • Enhances the visitor and customer experience by positioning the Nautilus Arts Centre as a regionally significant venue for arts, events and conferences
  • Ensures inclusive access and participation while balancing service delivery with financially sustainable and commercially responsible operations
  • Develops and maintains effective relationships with artists, hirers, partners and stakeholders, including negotiating and coordinating outcomes to support programming and operational success
  • Oversees the delivery of events within the Nautilus Arts Centre and contributes to the planning and execution of key Council events, supporting broader community activation outcomes


What does this Position do?

  • Driving revenue performance and cost control, including monitoring, analysing and reporting financial and operational outcomes
  • Planning and delivering integrated programming, events and commercial activities to optimise utilisation and service delivery outcomes
  • Leading the implementation of sales, marketing and audience development initiatives to maximise attendance and engagement
  • Identifying and securing opportunities for grant funding, sponsorship and partnerships to support program sustainability
  • Overseeing the delivery of events and contributing to the planning and execution of Council-wide event initiatives
  • Managing stakeholder relationships, contracts and operational activities, including negotiation within delegated authority


Key Responsibilities

Commercial Performance & Financial Management

  • Manage and drive performance across revenue streams including ticket sales, venue hire and partnerships
  • Identify and implement opportunities to improve utilisation, income generation and commercial outcomes
  • Develop and implement initiatives to improve financial performance and cost efficiency
  • Prepare, manage and monitor budgets, forecasts and financial plans for the work area
  • Analyse financial and operational data to inform programming and business decisions
  • Prepare and present financial and performance reports, including insights and recommendations

 

Programming, Activation & Utilisation

  • Plan, develop and deliver a diverse program of events, performances and exhibitions aligned with community and commercial objectives
  • Identify and implement programming opportunities that enhance utilisation and audience engagement
  • Optimise the use of facilities through strategic scheduling and coordination of activities
  • Lead initiatives to expand multi-use functionality and maximise activation of the venue

 

Sales, Marketing & Audience Development

  • Lead and implement sales and marketing strategies to increase attendance, utilisation and revenue
  • Position and promote the Nautilus Arts Centre as a regional destination for arts, events and conferences
  • Drive audience development and customer experience initiatives to enhance engagement and participation
  • Leverage digital platforms, data insights and partnerships to grow audiences

 

Events & Project Management

  • Lead the planning, coordination and delivery of events and projects, including logistics, risk and evaluation
  • Deliver major events and contribute to Council-wide initiatives and priorities
  • Apply project management methodologies to ensure timely, cost-effective and high-quality delivery
  • Identify and implement continuous improvement initiatives in event delivery and operations

 

Partnerships, Stakeholder Engagement & Investment

  • Develop, manage and influence strategic stakeholder relationships with artists, hirers, partners and community groups
  • Negotiate, manage and oversee contracts and service agreements within delegated authority
  • Identify and drive partnership and investment opportunities that support programming and financial outcomes

 

Grants & Funding

  • Identify, lead and support the development of grant funding opportunities and applications
  • Manage grant-funded programs, ensuring compliance, delivery and reporting requirements are met
  • Leverage funding and partnerships to enhance program delivery and sustainability

 

Operations & Governance

  • Oversee the day-to-day operations of the Nautilus Arts Centre to ensure efficient, compliant and high-quality service delivery
  • Manage venue hire operations, systems and processes to support commercial and community use
  • Ensure compliance with Council policies, WHS, risk management and governance requirements
  • Develop and implement operational procedures and improvements



Leadership & Team Development

  • Lead, supervise and develop staff to achieve operational objectives and service excellence
  • Provide direction, coaching and performance management to build capability and accountability
  • Foster a collaborative, high-performing team culture aligned with Council values
  • Contribute to workforce planning and continuous improvement initiatives

 

WHS Compliance

Comply with WHS obligations under the Work Health & Safety Act 2012 by taking reasonable care for own and others’ safety, following instructions and procedures, and reporting hazards and incidents. Undertake responsibilities as identified within the Council’s WHS Roles and Responsibilities Register.

 

Key responsibilities:

  • Follow safe work procedures and use equipment correctly
  • Report hazards, incidents, and near misses promptly
  • Participate in WHS training and consultation activities


Essential Qualifications, Skills & Experience

  • Demonstrated experience in public relations, community relations, revenue management, events, arts or cultural facilities with a strong commercial focus
  • Proven ability to drive revenue growth, utilisation and financial performance
  • Strong financial and business acumen, including budgeting, forecasting and reporting
  • Experience in sales, marketing and audience development
  • Demonstrated project and event management expertise (end-to-end delivery)
  • Experience in grant writing, funding acquisition and acquittals
  • Strong negotiation, stakeholder engagement and partnership development skills
  • Highly developed organisational, analytical and decision-making capability
  • Ability to lead teams and deliver outcomes in a dynamic, customer-focused environment
  • High-level IT and reporting capability
  • Drivers Licence current

 

Highly regarded but not essential Qualifications, Experience, Knowledge & Skills

  • Tertiary qualifications in Business, Event Management, Arts Management, Project Management or related discipline
  • Experience managing a multi-use performing arts or cultural venue
  • Demonstrated success in commercial programming and attracting touring productions
  • Knowledge of tourism, destination marketing and regional economic development
  • Experience in contract management and commercial negotiations
