Position Overview
The Coat Check Specialist is a dedicated member of the Con Ops Department at Anthro SoCal, reporting to the Con Ops Manager. This role ensures our attendees have a secure and organized space to store their belongings, allowing them to enjoy the convention worry-free. You will be the primary architect of the room’s workflow, coordinating with venue staff to set up the space and overseeing the transition of unclaimed items to Lost and Found.
Time Commitment
- Year-round: 1-2 hours per month for planning and communication
- As convention approaches: Gradually increasing to 2-5 hours per week
- Convention weekend: On-site presence is required with flexible hours
- Pre and post-convention: On-site presence is required to assist with setup and teardown activities the day before and the day after the event
Key Responsibilities
- Logistics & Planning: Provide input on necessary tools, storage hardware, and organization supplies needed for the Coat Check room
- Venue Coordination: Collaborate with Convention Center staff during setup to organize the room and provide training on the specific check-in/out systems used
- Process Improvement: Continuously monitor and refine the check-in and check-out workflows to reduce wait times and improve item security
- End-of-Day Operations: Manage the nightly closing of the room, ensuring all remaining items are safely transported to Con Ops for Lost and Found processing
Qualifications
Required:
- Strong organizational skills and attention to detail
- Ability to work collaboratively with professional venue staff and diverse volunteer teams
- Effective communication skills for training others on new processes
- Reliability in handling attendee property and maintaining accurate records
Preferred:
- Previous experience in hospitality, retail, or cloakroom management
- Experience with inventory management or digital check-in systems
- A friendly, service-oriented attitude and a history of volunteering at conventions
- Previous volunteer experience within the furry fandom or large-scale conventions
