About the role
Position Purpose:
The San Diego County Fair is seeking enthusiastic candidates who will assist with bringing exhibits to life in an immersive and creative Theme atmosphere. The exhibit, Once Upon a Fair, will allow guests of all ages to experience and learn about the origins of storytelling. Cast members will use props, costumes and decorations both on stage and off stage to make the theme experience unique and engaging. Main tasks include but are not limited to assisting in crafting or painting creative projects and the creation of exhibits for the annual Fair. This is a seasonal/temporary position not to exceed 125 days.
Essential Functions:
- Be in character, on stage to perform a variety of staff duties including introducing guest presentations, stage announcements, book readings to fair guests, etc.
- May assist in creative workshops about literacy and reading, able to inspire guests of all ages to interact in a fun and positive way.
- May be required to wear a costume character for a limited time in the theme exhibit building.
- Uses theatrical skills to bring a character to life.
- Assist with the creation and preparation of exhibit fixtures, and props if needed pre and post fair setup/strike using recycled or lightweight materials such as foam, lightweight wood, fabric, plastic or cardboard.
- Possessing excellent problem-solving skills are essential.
- Able to memorize script and work with other cast members in a positive environment.
- Responsible for the care and safekeeping of exhibit supplies, tools and equipment and keeping working area clean.
- Practices good physical work methods, utilizes good work habits, and meets established production standards.
- Must be enthusiastic and able to handle occasional stressful situations effectively.
- Wears proper personal protective equipment (e.g., gloves, googles) and always works in a safe work environment.
- Must be at least 16 years old.
- Perform other related duties as assigned or requested when needed.

Qualifications:
- Strong customer service skills
- Attention to detail a must
- Excellent teamwork skills necessary
- Ability to work outside the normal business day/week as demanded by events and programs
- Ability to lift or move objects up to 20 lbs. safely necessary.
Preferences:
- Knowledge of acting, art/craft media, décor, exhibit design a plus.
- Previous experience or coursework in theatre, gallery, exhibition, or art preferred

Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision and the ability to adjust focus.
Work Environment:
Will work in a fast-paced, environment in both indoor and outdoor environments during all types of weather. The noise level in the work environment is moderately loud, particularly when working outdoors or in an exhibit building.
