About the role

Position Title: Mental Health Therapist
Reports To: Clinical Supervisor
Employment Type: Full-time or Contract
Location: Outpatient / Community-Based / Telehealth


Position Summary

The Mental Health Therapist provides comprehensive, client-centered behavioral health services to individuals, families, and groups. This role focuses on assessment, diagnosis, treatment planning, and evidence-based interventions to support emotional regulation, coping skills, symptom reduction, and overall well-being. The therapist collaborates with internal team members and external community partners to ensure continuity of care and supports each client's recovery goals.


Essential Duties & Responsibilities

Clinical Services

  • Conduct initial diagnostic assessments, biopsychosocial evaluations, and risk assessments.
  • Develop individualized treatment plans using person-centered, culturally responsive care.
  • Provide therapy using evidence-based modalities (CBT, DBT skills, trauma-informed care, solution-focused therapy, etc.).
  • Facilitate individual, family, and/or group therapy sessions as assigned.
  • Monitor progress toward goals and revise treatment plans as clinically indicated.
  • Identify risk factors and intervene appropriately during crises, following agency policy.

Documentation & Compliance

  • Complete progress notes (BIRP), assessments, treatment plans, and discharge summaries within required timeframes.
  • Maintain accurate, timely, and clinically sound documentation in the EHR.
  • Ensure compliance with all federal, state, and payer requirements (HIPAA, OhioMHAS, Medicaid).
  • Participate in audits, quality assurance reviews, and required trainings.

Collaboration & Care Coordination

  • Work collaboratively with CPST staff, TBS providers, case managers, and clinical supervisors.
  • Communicate with schools, medical providers, legal systems, and community partners as appropriate.
  • Participate in treatment team meetings, case consultations, and supervision.
  • Provide referral, linkage, and advocacy support to help clients access needed services.

Client Support & Engagement

  • Build therapeutic rapport using a strengths-based, trauma-informed approach.
  • Support clients in developing coping strategies, emotional regulation skills, and healthy interpersonal relationships.
  • Assist families in understanding diagnosis, treatment goals, and how to support the client.
  • Encourage participation in treatment and reinforce progress.


Qualifications

Required

  • Master’s or bachelor's degree in social work, Counseling, or a related behavioral health field.
  • LSW, LPC, or higher (LISW, LPCC).
  • Knowledge of evidence-based therapeutic models and trauma-informed care.
  • Strong clinical writing and documentation skills.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a multidisciplinary team.
  • Ability to pass background checks and meet credentialing requirements.


Preferred

  • Experience working with children, adolescents, or families.
  • Experience with community-based services (CPST, TBS, school-based therapy).
  • Bilingual abilities (English/Spanish) a plus.

Work Environment

  • Ability to complete documentation using electronic systems.
