TRANSIT MECHANIC “A”

Permanent, Full-time

West Vancouver Transit has an immediate opening for one permanent full-time Transit Mechanic “A”. This position is responsible for mechanical maintenance and repair work at the journeyperson level. Reporting to the Maintenance Manager, this position will be responsible for: performing mechanical overhaul, repair, and maintenance tasks on transit vehicles in the shop or in the field, completing a variety of complex mechanical assessments; diagnosing various electronic components by performing diagnostic testing and troubleshooting using relevant computer software; submitting reports and maintaining records; performing a variety of gas and electrical welding tasks; and other related work as required.

 

The successful candidate will possess, or have the ability to obtain and retain:

·         Red Seal Trades Qualification in Commercial Transport Mechanics or Heavy Duty

·         Commercial Vehicle Inspection Certificate with air brake endorsement

·         Class 2 or 3 Driver's License with Air Brake Endorsement

Additional requirements for this position include a minimum of five years' relevant experience; current knowledge of diesel engine and transmission electronic control systems; possession of own hand tools; air conditioning courses; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
