About the role

Key Responsibilities

  • Gain knowledge of the school day curricula by supporting classrooms throughout the school day. Utilizing that knowledge, ensure that the program staff plans and implements classroom curricula that align with school day learning and provide growth in skills, self-awareness, group relations, and character development.  
  • Ensure adherence to EEC licensing standards, and create systems and structures that allow for organized and impactful programming and an inclusive culture. 
  • Develop new or utilize existing systems of communication to inform parents and community networks about scheduling, program activities and opportunities for engagement. 
  • Participate in the Y annual campaign 
  • Maintain a program environments which are safe, healthy, and engaging.  
  • Position the YMCA in the community as a resource and asset through engagement and participation in the broader Trotter  community. 
  • Collaborate with Trotter  school staff to ensure that the after-school program is a valued extension of the school day. 
  • Support and/or operate as lead Director, summer programming at a licensed YMCA location. 
  • Keep safety of children as first priority; emphasize personal safety and emotional well-being with the children, parents, and early education staff. 
  • Use positive and constructive methods of child and staff guidance, while ensuring that all staff does the same. 
  • Ensures the development, maintenance, and quality of the program, consistent with the YMCA mission and philosophy - including daily schedules of staff, curriculum, supervision, staff meetings, professional development, parent meetings, and special events. 
  • Ensure all necessary personnel, payroll, file maintenance, and EEC paperwork is current, including documents related to licensing and other state or YMCA initiatives. 
  • Maintain accurate attendance, children’s files, evaluations, and proper reporting to parents and regulatory agencies. 
  • Manage transportation for participants 
  • Work with the Business Manager / Bookkeeper to ensure up-to-date accounts among families in accordance with EEC and YMCA policies as needed. 
  • Perform other duties as requested by supervisor or Youth Development Leadership

Skills, Knowledge and Expertise

  • Bachelors Degree 
  • A passion for positive youth development, serving youth and families and out of school time programming 
  • 1-2 years of experience training, leading and coaching part-time staff 
  • Experience working in diverse communities and a commitment to an equity mindset and asset-based perspective 
  • Bilingual in English and Haitian Kreyol preferred 
  • A warm, engaging environment for children, staff and families which meet quality standards and EEC licensing requirements. 
  • A developmentally sound program for children which provides positive channels to grow, learn and develop to their full potential. 
  • A program which meets the community needs, in a manner consistent with the YMCA mission. 
  • APT data, SAYO-Y surveys, School Leader surveys and family surveys measuring program success and student and family satisfaction
