Position Summary

Birthplace of Country Music (BCM) participates in the Tennessee Youth Employment Program (TYEP) through the First Tennessee Development District to provide meaningful short-term employment experiences for eligible youth and young adults.

TYEP Participants may be assigned to a variety of departments across BCM based on organizational needs, participant interests, skills, and learning goals. Assignments may include support in areas such as museum operations, curatorial projects, administrative support, events, marketing, visitor services, archives, radio operations, facilities, or community programming.

This temporary position is designed to provide workforce experience, professional skill development, and exposure to nonprofit arts and cultural organization operations.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

Duties will vary depending on departmental assignment, but may include:

• Assisting staff with day-to-day departmental operations
• Supporting administrative and organizational tasks
• Assisting with event preparation and execution
• Supporting museum, curatorial, archival, or educational projects
• Assisting with data entry, filing, inventory, and office organization
• Providing visitor or guest support services
• Supporting marketing, communications, or digital projects
• Assisting with facilities, setup, or operational support tasks
• Participating in professional development and workplace learning opportunities
• Completing assigned tasks in a timely and professional manner
• Maintaining confidentiality and professionalism in the workplace

Qualifications

• Must be approved and referred through the Tennessee Youth Employment Program (TYEP)
• Interest in gaining professional work experience
• Ability to follow instructions and work collaboratively with staff and team members
• Strong communication and interpersonal skills
• Dependable, punctual, and professional in conduct
• Ability to adapt to varying assignments and responsibilities
• Basic computer skills preferred for some assignments

Physical Requirements

Physical requirements vary by assignment and may include sitting, standing, lifting light materials, moving equipment, or working in indoor and outdoor event environments.

Schedule and Duration

• Temporary employment program up to 8 weeks
• Work schedules will vary based on departmental assignment and organizational needs
• Some evening or weekend hours may be required for events or programming

Compensation

This position is funded through the Tennessee Youth Employment Program (TYEP) administered by the First Tennessee Development District. Participants are employed and paid through BCM in accordance with program guidelines and organizational payroll procedures.
