About the role
About the Role
Key Responsibilities
- Develop, calibrate, and maintain CSG reservoir and gas drainage models to assess gas quality, quantity, and flow behaviour within underground coal seams
- Lead modelling to inform gas drainage strategy, SIS/UIS design, and methane management frameworks
- Conduct advanced simulations to support pre-drainage, post-drainage, and in-seam gas capture programs
- Translate modelling outputs into practical drilling programs, infrastructure requirements, and operational plans
- Support gas capture, utilisation, flaring, and destruction strategies, including evaluation of commercial opportunities
- Partner with mine sites and external providers to optimise gas drainage performance and execution
- Provide technical input into mine planning, feasibility studies, and Life of Mine strategies
- Prepare and support CSG Statements, regulatory submissions, and environmental documentation
- Collaborate with geology and planning teams to integrate subsurface data into modelling frameworks
- Support troubleshooting and continuous improvement of gas performance across operations
About You
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Mining, Petroleum, Geological, or related Engineering discipline
- Strong capability in reservoir modelling, numerical simulation, or subsurface modelling
- Experience with relevant modelling tools (e.g., reservoir simulation or gas drainage software)
- Exposure to underground coal mining environments will be highly regarded
- RPEQ / Chartered Engineer status (or working towards) is desirable
Experience
- Minimum 5 years’ experience in gas modelling, reservoir engineering, or underground coal gas management
- Demonstrated capability in CSG evaluation, gas drainage design, and modelling-driven decision making
- Experience translating complex modelling outputs into operationally practical solutions
- Background in underground coal is strongly preferred, however we will consider adjacent industries or research backgrounds with transferable modelling expertise
- Exposure to ventilation modelling (e.g., Ventsim) is considered beneficial but not required
The Lifestyle
This position is based in the Fortitude Valley office on a Monday–Friday roster, with flexible work‑from‑home options. Flexible start and finish times and the redistributed working week give employees the option to finish at noon on Fridays.
