We are currently seeking motivated Underground pipelayer crewmembers  to join our growing team. Our clients include; Universities, Municipalities, NCDOT, and Commercial entities throughout NC, SC, VA, TN, GA, and FL. Our team takes pride in our craftsmanship, safety, and attention to detail.



Job Summary:


The Underground Pipelayer Crew Member is responsible for installing, maintaining, and repairing underground pipelines for water, sewage, storm drains, and other utility systems. Working as part of a dedicated crew, this individual ensures that all pipes are laid accurately according to project specifications, safety standards, and local regulations.



Key Responsibilities:



  1. Pipe Installation and Alignment
    • Excavate trenches using appropriate tools and equipment
    • Lay pipe to specified line and grade as directed by project plans or supervisor
    • Ensure proper alignment and connection of pipes and fittings, using lasers, levels, and measuring devices
  2. Site Preparation
    • Clear and prepare construction areas for pipe installation, including removal of debris and temporary obstacles
    • Assist with setting up trench boxes and other safety measures
  3. Pipe Assembly and Maintenance
    • Connect pipes and fittings using couplings, clamps, seals, cement, or welding equipment, as required
    • Perform checks for leaks and other potential issues, troubleshooting and repairing as needed
    • Backfill and compact trenches according to project specifications
  4. Safety Compliance
    • Follow all site safety procedures and wear required personal protective equipment (PPE)
    • Identify and address potential safety hazards, reporting issues to the supervisor immediately
    • Participate in safety briefings and training sessions
  5. Equipment Operation and Maintenance
    • Operate hand and power tools safely and proficiently (e.g., saws, tampers, compactors)
    • Assist with operating heavy machinery (e.g., excavators, backhoes, wheel loaders, etc)
    • Perform basic maintenance checks on equipment and tools, reporting any malfunctions or damage
  6. Documentation and Communication
    • Keep accurate records of work performed, materials used, and any issues encountered
    • Communicate effectively with supervisors, team members, and other trade professionals on the jobsite
    • Ensure compliance with project specifications and local regulations



Qualifications and Skills:



  • Experience: Prior experience with underground pipeline installation or construction preferred
  • Knowledge: Familiarity with reading blueprints, job site plans, or other construction documents
  • Technical Skills:
    • Knowledge of trenching, grading, and slope requirements
    • Basic math skills for measuring and leveling
    • Ability to use lasers, levels, and other alignment tools
  • Physical Requirements:
    • Ability to lift heavy objects (often 50 lbs or more) and perform manual labor for extended periods
    • Comfort working outdoors in varying weather conditions
    • Capacity to stand, crouch, and kneel for long durations
  • Safety Awareness:
    • Understanding of OSHA safety regulations and excavation/trenching best practices
    • Willingness to follow all company policies and safety protocols
  • Teamwork and Communication:
    • Strong interpersonal skills; able to work effectively as part of a crew
    • Good verbal communication skills to coordinate with team members and supervisors

Education and Certifications

  • High School Diploma or GED preferred, but not required.
  • Valid driver’s license (CDL may be beneficial)
  • Certifications in OSHA safety, trenching, or relevant heavy equipment operation are advantageous

Working Conditions

  • Outdoor construction sites, often exposed to inclement weather and uneven terrain
  • Regular use of heavy machinery, power tools, and other construction equipment
  • Strict adherence to safety protocols to prevent accidents, falls, or injuries
