<h2 class="wp-block-heading has-text-align-center" style="text-align: center;"><em><strong>A Mentored Post-Graduate Experience</strong></em></h2> <p>Mission: To provide optimal patient care training as well as exceptional post-graduate education for graduates of AVMA-accredited veterinary technology programs throughout the United States who are seeking employment in one of the busiest and best-recognized veterinary hospitals in the world.</p> <p>52-week program: Program begins September 28th, 2026</p> <p>The Schwarzman Animal Medical Center (AMC), one of the world’s busiest and best-recognized veterinary hospitals, is accepting applications for its Internship program in Veterinary Technology from graduates of AVMA-accredited programs for Veterinary Technology. Located on Manhattan’s Upper East Side, AMC is a private, not-for-profit academic veterinary hospital. The&nbsp;Schwarzman Animal Medical Center is dedicated to providing compassionate and collaborative care to animals and to leading the advancement of veterinary medicine through innovative clinical research and education.</p> <p>This unique Veterinary Technician Intern program was initiated in 1985. It was designed to further the practical training received by those working in the profession who are graduates of AVMA-accredited Veterinary Technology programs or those veterinary technology students graduating from an AVMA-accredited Veterinary Technology program prior to the start of the internship.</p> <p>Because of a&nbsp;caseload of over 54,000 animals per year, including small animal and exotic animal pets, the Animal Medical Center offers the unequaled ability to impart skill, experience, and confidence in veterinary technology within the world’s largest veterinary teaching hospital.</p> <p>Our Veterinary Technician Internship Program offers an opportunity to spend 52 weeks training and learning optimal patient care skills while working with AMC’s outstanding staff of Licensed Veterinary Technicians and Veterinarians.</p> <h2 class="wp-block-heading has-text-align-center">Veterinary Technician Internship Program Description</h2> <h3 class="wp-block-heading"><strong>Rotation</strong></h3> <p>The internship will be completed over 52 weeks, during which each intern will rotate through various departments including our Anesthesia, Behavior, Emergency/Critical Care, Internal Medicine, and Medical/Surgical Unit departments, as well as 2 elective rotations in one of our other 20 specialties. For each rotation, interns work alongside clinical educators, veterinary technician specialists, technician preceptors, veterinarians who are seasoned in their given specialty and who will serve as a guide to the requirements and everyday workings of the department. In addition, the veterinary technician interns (VTIs) receive bi-monthly lectures, as well as wet and dry labs in various clinical techniques. VTIs will participate in the care and medical treatment of all animals admitted to the hospital, assisting with consultations and interdepartmental transfers. After an initial training and orientation period, VTIs will begin their rotations. Medical rotations offer opportunities to acquire standard and advanced skillsets within specific specialties. The Surgical department rotations include perioperative patient care and surgical care. &nbsp;</p> <h3 class="wp-block-heading"><strong>Continuing Education</strong></h3> <p>VTIs attend regular lectures and labs prepared exclusively for them.</p> <h3 class="wp-block-heading"><strong>Work Schedule</strong></h3> <p>Veterinary Technician Interns work a full-time schedule. Shifts vary depending on work assignment.</p> <h3 class="wp-block-heading"><strong>Evaluation</strong></h3> <p>VTls will be evaluated periodically. All aspects of assignment will be formally reviewed in written form and the Education Coordinator will sign the evaluation acknowledging discussion of the written review. The aim of the evaluation is to enable both VTI and Clinical Educators to identify areas in which the Intern needs more experience or help.</p> <h3 class="wp-block-heading"><strong>Eligibility</strong></h3> <p>Candidates who have <span style="text-decoration: underline;">graduated from AVMA-accredited programs in Veterinary Technology or who are expecting to graduate prior to the start of the program</span> are eligible to apply. Applicants must submit the following:</p> <ol class="wp-block-list"> <li>Application&nbsp;(under this job description)</li> <li>Resume <strong><span style="text-decoration: underline;">(please add supporting docs requested below to your resume file as additional pages)</span></strong></li> <li>Official or unofficial college transcripts</li> <li>Three letters of recommendation from professors or employers <span style="text-decoration: underline;"><em><strong>(attach to resume)</strong></em></span></li> <li>Cover letter describing career objectives and reasons for applying to the Veterinary Technician Intern Program</li> <li>Applicants who have been accepted into our VTI class must possess or obtain a Veterinary Technician license or permit to practice in the State of New York before the start of the Internship.&nbsp;</li> <li>Passage of the VTNE must be completed and proof emailed to LVTEducators@amcny.org by August 31st, 2026, or you will not be eligible for the Internship program.</li> <li><strong><em>Failure to pass the VTNE, obtain licensure, and/or permit will result in dismissal from the program.</em></strong></li> </ol> <p>Applicants who have graduated from an AVMA-accredited program and have already taken the Veterinary Technician National Exam (VTNE) must have a passing score of 425 (or 75 depending on state or province) in order to practice veterinary technology in the State of New York. Any candidate who has taken the VTNE must submit a copy of their test score results indicating a passing grade to be accepted into the VTI program.</p> <h3 class="wp-block-heading"><strong>Selection</strong></h3> <p>A panel consisting of Clinical Education team members will review applications. All candidates will be interviewed by telephone, virtually, and/or in-person and notified by email and/or telephone once the selection process is complete. Selectees will receive a package of necessary materials relating to starting date, procedures, employment agreement, working conditions, and information contacts.</p> <h3 class="wp-block-heading"><strong>Uniforms</strong></h3> <p>Uniforms are provided by the&nbsp;Schwarzman Animal Medical Center.</p> <h3 class="wp-block-heading"><strong>Compensation and Benefits</strong></h3> <p>Veterinary Technician Interns will earn a competitive internship rate. Workdays and hours are subject to change as needed by rotations. VTI Compensation (Hourly Rate) will increase upon obtaining New York State Licensure.</p> <p>As a Veterinary Intern of AMC, you will be eligible to receive various benefits the company currently provides to its employees, including medical and dental benefits. You will be eligible for medical and dental benefits on the first of the month following 60 days of employment.
